Hi, my name is Roisin Connolly and I work in mobile. Today we're going to give you an introduction into what
mobility is. We're going to go into a bit more detail about mobile design, mobile development, and also the internet

of things.

Hi, my name's Isla Kennedy, and I work in mobility. A lot of people, when I say I work in mobility, don't have clue

what that is, and they think that it means I work with wheelchairs and that sort of stuff. But it's not. It's more mobile
to do with smartphones and tablets and apps and all that sort of stuff.

So I guess I've grown up through mobility changing. When I bought my first smartphone and I started my job in 2011, that's when
I thought it was quite exciting with lots going on in it. So that's why I went into mobility.

But what do we mean really by mobility, so you have an ecosystem made of - so you've got your device, whether

that be an iPhone or an Android device or whatever it is. And that's got loads of capabilities within it. So whether

that be location services, you've got your e-mail - you've got lots of different things on that device. So your

camera, all that.

And then you have all your apps that go onto that, that make those capabilities useful. So you have maybe Citymapper you can
use your GPS to work out where you are - Google Maps, whatever it is. So you can use those
functions on that device to make your phone more useful.

So that's what we mean when we talk about an ecosystem. So you've got the device, the core stuff, plus the

things that actually make it do stuff.

So when we talk about devices, that can be anything from smartphone - and that can be an iPhone or Samsung,

whatever - and then you've also got tablets. But then you've also got wearables and smart watches, Google Glass, all that sort of
stuff that's coming out now. But then we also can get into smart devices, whether that be a
driverless car - that counts as mobility as anything that is mobile, I guess, in simple terms.

And then also within that you've got different operating systems, so different software that runs on that. So if it's an

iPhone, then obviously that's iOS or Apple operating system. If it's a Samsung or an LG phone or all the others,

they normally run on Android, which is the Google operating system.

So mobility is a massive area. It's not just about having an iPhone and having one app on the iPhone. It's about

how it all works together, all different devices - how they can be connected, how you can make the most out of the

functions on those devices, and also how you can use them for customers but also how you can use them within

business. So it's a massive area that we'll look into more.
