FINAL EXAMINATION
Statistics in Education
I. Directions: Write the research objective, hypothesis (if needed) and statistical tool/s to be used in the following statement of the
problems below:
• How may the freshman college students of TAU be described in terms of their Science Performance?
Objective: To describe the freshman college student of TAU in terms of their science performance
Hypothesis (if any): Freshman college student of TAU performed well in their Science subject
• How may the freshman college students of TAU be described in terms of their attributes such as: sex, age, family income
(low, average, high) and marital status (single/married)?
Objective: To describe the freshman college of TAU in terms of theirs attributes such as sex, age, family income (low, average,
high) and marital status (single/married).
Hypothesis (if any): There is significant relationship between freshman students college of TAU in their attributes such as
sex, age, family income (low, average, high) and marital status (single/married).
• To what extent do the Science performance of freshman college students of TAU relate to each of their attributes?
Objective: To determine the extent do the science performance of freshman college students of TAU in relationship to each
of their attributes
Hypothesis (if any): There is no significant relationship between freshman college students of TAU and their attributes in
terms of science performance
• To what extent do the Science performance of male and female freshman college students of TAU differ?
Objective: To determine the extent of relationship between male and female freshman college students of TAU differ in terms
of science performance
Hypothesis (if any): There is a significant relationship between male and female freshman college students of TAU in terms
of science performance
Statistical Tool/s:
• To what extent do the Science performance of TAU freshman college students vary when classified in terms of their
family income (high, average, low)?
Objective:
• To what extent do the selected attributes of freshman college students of TAU influence their Science performance?
Objective: To determine the extent of the selected attributes of freshman college student of TAU influence their science
performance
Hypothesis (if any): There is a significant relationship between selected attributes of freshman college students of TAU in the
influence in their science performance
Directions: Given the following problems below, compute using the SPSS and interpret the results. Prepare an
appropriate table for the presentation of results. 10 pts each
1. The following are the general point average (GPA) of 30 students in Mathematics and English. At 5% level of
significance, test the null hypothesis which states that “There is no significant relationship between the GPA of 30
students in English and in Mathematics” assuming that the distribution is normal.
Table 1. The general point average (GPA) of 30 students in Mathematics and English.
Variables Mean Significance Value Remarks
Mathematics 82.0333 .017 Significant
English 83.3000 .017 Significant
Table 1 shows the result of general average of 30 students in Mathematics and English.
It is evident from the table that there is a significant relationship between the GPA of 30 students in English and in
Mathematics.
The 30 students have the same GPA in both ENGLISH AND Mathematics.
2. Before showing a documentary film on abuses against women, 20 (10 males and 10 females) respondents were given a
test towards abuses against women. The following table shows the results:
a. Can we say that “there is no significant difference on the scores of males and females in the test given
to them”?
Table 2. The scores of Male and Female in the test towards abuses against women
3. Before showing a documentary film on abuses against women, 10 male respondents were given an attitude test towards
abuses against women. After the film showing the same test were given. The following table shows the results:
a. Can we say that the film affected a significant change in attitude? Use α = .05.
Table 3. The result of the attitude test before and after showing a documentary film on abuses against women.
Variables Regression Significance Value Remarks
Before .476 .082 Not Significant
After .476 .082 Not Significant
Table 3 describes the result of the attitude test towards abuses against women after the film showing.
We can say that the film affected a not significant change in attitude. There is no difference between the result before and
after the film showed. After the students watch the film they have the same impression about abuses against women.
4. The amount of dirt in milligrams that the four brands of laundry detergent have removed are shown in the table below.
Test of .05 level of significance if there is a significant variation among the mean amount of dirt removed by the four
brands of laundry detergent.
Table 4 describes the amount of dirt in milligrams about the four brands of laundry detergent.
Based on the evidence we cannot reject the hypothesis. There is a significant variation among the mean amount of dirt
removed by the four brands of the laundry detergent.
5. A researcher wants to find out if sex and type of school graduated from significantly influenced Statistics performance
of Grade XII students of Pasang-Awa Senior High School. Test the significance using 5% level of significance.
Table 5 shows the result of statistical performance of Grade XII students of Pasang-Awa Senior High School.
It is evident that there is no significant influenced in Sex and Type of school in their Statistics performance. Thus, we can
reject the hypothesis.
Guide:
5 – if all indicators are evident
4 – if only 3 indicators are evident
3 – if only 2 indicator are evident
2 – if only 1 indicator is evident
1 – if none of the indicators is evident
0 – no attempt
