Leadership Trait Questionnaire (LTQ)

KEY: 1 = strongly disagree, 2 = Disagree, 3 = Neutral, 4 = Agree, 5 = strongly agree

Congruence: If the difference of self-rating and group rating average lies in the range

(-0.5 to +0.5) then there is congruence or balance between self-rating and group rating
average.

Interpretation:

The ratings mentioned in the table above represents, how I see and perceive myself as a
leader and how other members of my group see or perceive me as a leader on the basis of
above mentioned characteristics. If the difference of self-rating and group rating average lies
in the range (-0.5 - +0.5) then there is congruence or balance between self-rating and group
rating average and vice versa. This implies that my perception matches to the perceptions of
others about myself.

On the basis of above scores, I am balanced or in congruence with others, in particular


characteristics – articulate, perceptive, self-confident, self-assured, persistent, determined,
trustworthy, dependable, friendly, outgoing, conscientious, diligent, sensitive, empathic.

Every individual carries certain understanding and learning from their past experiences,
similarly I have rated myself on all of the 14 characteristics based on the way I perform and
on the reaction that I have received from people in my vicinity. I personally feel that most of
the individuals are capable of judging themselves in appropriate way, but when it comes to
judge oneself on the basis of others perception they fall behind.

Since it is clearly visible that I am in congruence to all the 14 mentioned characteristics,


which infers that I have a better understanding of the people I communicate with.

Even though, few colleagues have rated me unexpectedly low on few characteristic, and I
need to build a positive relationship with them by clearing their doubts or any issues related
to the same.

All the 6 respondents have seen me performing various tasks with absolute focus, either it be
group assignments, group presentations, exams, management games and even in sports. This
in particular is the reason on basis of which they have rated me on all the 14 characteristics.

The variation of (-0.5) in characteristic (persistent and determined) is because the respondents
has seen me performing even in adverse situations and they feel I stand firmly and give my
best dodging all the obstacles.

The variation of +0.5 in characteristic (dependable) is because respondent 3 and 4 have


suffered due to ill timing in a situation where I had to assist them in a task, but I was unable
to do so because of unavailability of time and communication gap.

This questionnaire helped me in understanding my traits and what others think of me based
on the mentioned 14 characteristics, providing me a chance to strengthen myself on various
parameters.
