This course provides an overview of entrepreneurship concepts focusing on technology ventures. It explores the entrepreneur personality and how innovative business ideas are created. Students will learn about different business models and case studies of real-world tech companies. The objectives are for students to understand the entrepreneurial process from idea generation to venture formation, describe technopreneurs' characteristics, and evaluate business ideas against goals. The class will use readings, assignments, cases studies, projects, visits, and exercises facilitated by lectures, presentations, discussions, and guest speakers. Assessment includes attendance, quizzes, assignments, midterm exam, and final exam.

BACKGROUND This course will provide an overview of the basic concepts on entrepreneurship focusing on the technology, nature, environment, and risks of new venture formation and building of businesses. It is designed to explore the personality of the entrepreneur and how innovative business ideas are created. Students will learn to consider various types of business model. Students will also be exposed to various mini case studies of the real world companies involved in the technology business. Active participation by students during class discussions and activities is encouraged and expected. OBJECTIVE Students successfully completing this course will be able to: • Have a thorough understanding of the entrepreneurial process from idea generation to the structuring of an entrepreneurial venture. • Describe the nature and characteristics of technopreneurs. • Evaluate a business idea against a personal vision – lifestyles, professional and financial goals. TEACHING To meet the course objectives, this class will use a combination of methods and activities. A variety of readings, assignments, case studies, projects, visitation and exercises will be used to gather or apply related information. In addition, facilitated lectures, multimedia presentations, and discussions will be used to give additional information or to reinforce or enhance the learning content.
