Good morning everyone

 (first slide) : Today I will be discussing about second step in the STEPS OF A SALE which is THE PRE-
APPROACH STEP.
 (second slide) : here is an overview of all the steps. (BASAHA TANAN FROM STEP 1 TO 7)
 (third slide) : So what is pre-approach?
(fourth slide): Pre-approach is getting ready to sell this means that you become a salesman’ this
preparation to approach a prospect that he can succeed in turning into a customer.
*Next Pre-approach is also called as a planning stage: At this stage, the salesman or you plans on all
this will enable the salesman to distinguish between ‘most likely and likely’ prospects and convert as many
‘prospects’ into ‘buyers’. Such a step also enables the selling organization to concentrate all efforts and
resources on genuine prospects.
• *Next is Obtaining vital information about prospective buyers/dealers in this the salesmen or you
collects information about his different prospects with reference to their age, education, social status, usual
habits, likes, dislikes, buying practices, etc. These additional information help a salesman to plan his ‘sales
talk’, when he actually approaches the prospects. To put it in other words, the preparation to meet the
prospect is known as “Pre-approach”. By pre-approach, the salesman tries to make successful presentation
of his goods and services before the prospect.

*In a nutshell, all the preparations that are made before personally approaching the prospects is called pre-
approach. The salesman, by means of pre-approach tries to make a successful sales presentation on sound
lines.

*The Stage right after Prospecting and just before the Approach stage which was shown on the slide earlier.

• Strategic Problem Solving needed in this stage, a salesman knows before hand about the likes, dislikes,
taste and temperaments of the prospects. For instance, some prospects may not like smoking during sales-
interview or presentations or like things that she/he likes that you will incorporate. This advance knowledge
of prospects helps the salesman to avoid any serious mistakes during sales talk. If he finds any fault with his
pre-approach, he corrects it immediately to win the hearts of prospects. I will be discussing this further in the
next slides.

• (seventh slide): Understand customer’s strategic needs:


Helps the salesperson provide a product solution that would help the customer fulfill his/her goal. This
means that Understanding the needs, wants and overall mindset of your customers is critical. Like for
example does he/ she like sweet or sour, or strong or mild, it can also be big or small so you must know the
preference or need of the customer so you can provide her/him what she/he needs. Understanding
customers is the key to giving them good service.
• (eight slide): Develop Creative Solutions which means that this is Needed to meet customer’s
specific need. You need creativity to produce new and better ideas; they just don’t understand how to get
there. Like for example you are selling a cake she wants a specific design that is for example unique from
any other so you must be able to create solutions or ways to be able to execute and deliver these need or
want of your customer. This approach also means that anyone can be creative. Indeed, we all have the
ability to be creative and innovative—we just need to break out of the comfort zone of old processes that
result in predictable answer

• (ninth slide): Mutually Beneficial Agreements that is Creating win-win situations would benefit both
customer and the company. From its name this means that you and your customer should go on an
agreement that is not only beneficial for you but also for them. For example When you identify an airplane
you want to buy, you as the potential buyer create the sales/purchase agreement and send a copy to the
seller. In this agreement, you stipulate who pays for which items need to be fixed or price adjustments and
how much you’re willing to pay for the airplane. That’s the starting point of the negotiation.

• (14-15 slide):Determining the sales Call Objective: A call objective is defined as what you want the
prospect or customer to do by the end of the call in order for you to move a step closer to gaining a sale or
continuing the relationship.

• FOCUS ANS FLEXIBILTY


Customer focus your efforts on the objective when you are with the customer
Be prepared to switch to another objective if needed be flexible on what might come or be.

• Make the goal specific. Don’t go or talk other than what you are talking

Set a SMART call objective


• Specific: what do you want to sell or say:
• Measurable
• Achievable
• Realistic
• Time

Specific: A specific goal has a much greater chance of being accomplished than a general goal. To set a specific goal you
must answer the six “W” questions:
*Who: Who is involved?
*What: What do I want to accomplish?
*Where: Identify a location.
*When: Establish a time frame.
*Which: Identify requirements and constraints.
*Why: Specific reasons, purpose or benefits of accomplishing the goal.
EXAMPLE: A general goal would be, “Get in shape.” But a specific goal would say, “Join a health club and workout 3 days a
week.”

Measurable - Establish concrete criteria for measuring progress toward the attainment of each goal you set.
When you measure your progress, you stay on track, reach your target dates, and experience the exhilaration of achievement
that spurs you on to continued effort required to reach your goal.
To determine if your goal is measurable, ask questions such as……
How much? How many?
How will I know when it is accomplished?

Attainable – When you identify goals that are most important to you, you begin to figure out ways you can make them come
true. You develop the attitudes, abilities, skills, and financial capacity to reach them. You begin seeing previously overlooked
opportunities to bring yourself closer to the achievement of your goals.
You can attain most any goal you set when you plan your steps wisely and establish a time frame that allows you to carry out
those steps. Goals that may have seemed far away and out of reach eventually move closer and become attainable, not
because your goals shrink, but because you grow and expand to match them. When you list your goals you build your self-
image. You see yourself as worthy of these goals, and develop the traits and personality that allow you to possess them.

Realistic- To be realistic, a goal must represent an objective toward which you are both willing and able to work. A goal can be
both high and realistic; you are the only one who can decide just how high your goal should be. But be sure that every goal
represents substantial progress.
A high goal is frequently easier to reach than a low one because a low goal exerts low motivational force. Some of the hardest
jobs you ever accomplished actually seem easy simply because they were a labor of love.
Timely – A goal should be grounded within a time frame. With no time frame tied to it there’s no sense of urgency. If you want
to lose 10 lbs, when do you want to lose it by? “Someday” won’t work. But if you anchor it within a timeframe, “by May 1st”,
then you’ve set your unconscious mind into motion to begin working on the goal.
Your goal is probably realistic if you truly believe that it can be accomplished. Additional ways to know if your goal is realistic is
to determine if you have accomplished anything similar in the past or ask yourself what conditions would have to exist to
accomplish this goal.
T can also stand for Tangible – A goal is tangible when you can experience it with one of the senses, that is, taste, touch,
smell, sight or hearing.
When your goal is tangible you have a better chance of making it specific and measurable and thus attainable.

• (16 slide): Develop/ Review Customer Profile:


This is where you ask or research the profile of your prospect client so that you would be able to
know him/ her better. Collect and review as much relevant information as possible regarding the
firm, the buyer & individuals who influence the buying decision.

Review information to create customized presentation (meaning you would be able to create
presentation that is based or suited on her likes and preference)
See what customer has done in the past to determine future needs
If do not have customer profiles – get one for each customer ( this means that you may ask them to fill
out or maybe ask them information’s that is based on the information’s you need from them that can help
you in the sales process.
• (17 slide): so here is an example of customer profile sheet. There is name, address, type of business
and so on. SO THIS PROFILE SHEET CAN ALSO COME IN HANDY MOST OF THE TIME SO
THAT YOU CAN EASILY REVIEW THEIR PROFILE.
• (18 slide): Good marketing first identifies a market need and then fills that need. Too often we focus on what we have to
sell and who we can sell it to.
Focus on Market Needs from the Beginning
Do it right from the beginning! The most successful planning process begins with a customer need. Your whole
marketing strategy, from the product development stage on, is based on fulfilling that need better than any
competitor.

• (24 slide): here is the structure of sales presentation; we have structured which is memorized selling for
example you do have a script and just present it as is. Next is semi structures formula selling this one is
selling with a style or formula for example you start with step 1: introduce second present the idea and so on
that is semi structured the third one is unstructured which need satisfaction selling so this means this is the
structure that you need to do well because you will need the satisfaction of yourself and your client/prospect
and the last one is customized or the problem solution selling which is a personalized or what I’ve said
earlier base on the preference of the prospect.

is an important stage in the sales process that means gathering and analyzing all important information about prospect
before engaging him or her in the selling process. The salesperson should try to obtain as much available information
about the prospect and his or her needs as possible before contacting the potential client. If pre-approach process is not
well-organized and debugged, the sales manager may face the problems mentioned below.
