MAHATMA MANDIR

Background of the Project


It’s an iconic building constructed in the honor of Hon’ble Father of Nation, Mahatma Gandhi in the
Capital City of his home state. Mahatma Mandir is strategically located as the gateway to Gandhinagar -
the capital city of Gujarat, Enhancing the capital’s characteristic central vista as an entry node leading to
the assembly complex in one way & as a new connect to the future. The Government of Gujarat
commenced planning in the year 2009. Foundation stone was laid during Swarnim Gujarat Celebrations
(Golden Jubilee Year of formation of separate state of Gujarat). Mahatma Mandir is set up with an
objective to have various monuments based on the life-events and philosophy of Father of Nation. In
addition, it also has facilities to host international Conferences, Seminars and Exhibitions.
The Mahatma Mandir - a gathering space hosts, spacious Convention and Business Centre, well-
equipped Exhibition halls, memorial Salt Mound, a unique Gandhi Sculpture Garden, a Dandi March
suspension Bridge with landscaping and water bodies. It also hosts, one of the world's largest roof
garden, atop the large span column free convention and exhibition Halls.

Phase 1A:- Construction of Convention Center and Exhibition Halls.
Phase 1B:- Construction of VIP-VVIP Dining, VIP-VVIP Lounges, Multipurpose Hall and Food Court.
Salient Features
1. Precast RCC Wall with exposed concrete finish – For External walls (Qty. approx. 21000 Sq.mt)
2. 42 No. of 15° inclined RCC columns with bare concrete finish.
3. Fabrication & Erection of 60 m and 48 m long trusses weighing up to max. 96 MT and 50 MT over
the main Convention Hall and Exhibition Halls respectively.
4. Used RCC Composite slab to covers column free 60m X 96 m area of Convention Hall and 02 No.
of Exhibition halls of 70 m X 48 m.
5. 19 m height curtain glazing inclined in two planes.
6. 11.2 m height movable wall with semi-automatic version which can divide 96 m long convention
hall into 03 independent multi-facility halls.
7. All the area constructed is centrally air conditioned and well equipped with modern facilities like
SRS, video distribution system, CCTV, PA & Access Control, Fire alarm system.
8. Innovative methods like precast technology, sophisticated construction equipment, tandem
lifting using heavy lift cranes were used in the construction by adopting global standards.
9. The construction of supporting / auxiliary facilities such as VIP-VVIP Dining VIP-VVIP Lounge ,
Food Court and Multipurpose hall are planned and taken up to organize various events of
International level.
10. Events of various types such as exhibition, conferences, seminars, conventions etc. are being
organized by National and International event organizers.

Phase 2A:- Construction of Salt mound, Gandhi Garden and Parking Work
Salient features
1. 42-meter-high Salt Mound housing Gandhi museum
2. Low rise sand mound and water body surrounding the salt mound.
3. The lighting concept of Salt Mound denotes transparency, tranquility & a landmark
representation of Gandhiji’s Dandi movement.

Phase 2B: Construction of Cable Stayed Bridge and The Dandi Kutir museum (Salt Mound
Interior)
Salient features
1) 150 m. length span for cable stayed bridge to connect convention center with salt mound over the ‘kh’ road.
2) Turbine together with blades of windmill symbolizing charkha: Cable symbolizing threads spun by charkha,
bridge span length symbolized as woven cloth, power generation through windmill symbolizing sustainability.
3) Gandhiji’s vision and legacy is at the core of the Mahatma Mandir Museum (Dandi Kutir).
4) The experience will showcase the transformation of an ordinary individual, with doubts and inner
conflict, into a Mahatma who not only led India to Independence but also impacted people the world
over.
Floor Space Distribution of the Museum
Floor Description
Third floor L1 Mohandas to mahatma –I: Mohandas and Domestic Satyagrah.
Second floor L2 Mohandas to mahatma –I: Gandhi and Community Satyagrah.
First Floor L3 Mohandas to mahatma –I: Mahatma and National Satyagrah.
Ground Floor L4 The Legacy of Gandhi Satyagrah around the world.
Total Duration of the multimedia content is 82 minutes, floated in 14 Technologies.

CEPT Role
Pre-construction Role.
1. Prepare pre-qualification document for EPC Contract.
2. Assist in evaluating the EPC agencies.
3. Prepare technical terms and conditions for short listed bidders.
4. Assist in selection of the EPC agency.
5. Proof checking of the Concept and Design Basis Report related to structures & services submitted by the
EPC.
6. Approval sand verify the estimates submitted by the EPC and check the viability.
During-Construction Role
1. Periodic coordination with the agencies, consultants and client. Highlighting critical issues, solving the
problems or suggesting the feasible alternatives considering the Cost-Quality-Time Factors.
2. Approval of all design and proof checking of all designs and drawings.
3. Approval of all BOQ [Rate Analysis]
4. Third party inspection through weekly visit at site by technical expert steam
5. Conducting weekly / fortnightly meeting at site with client, consultants and concerned committee
meetings.
6. Conducting monthly meeting and progress review with state level committee.
7. Assist in bill and payment verification excluding detail measurement verification, review of joint records
and minutes of meeting.
Post-Construction Role
1. Periodic or call basis inspection (up to Defect Liability Period) of the work executed by EPC.
1. To highlight the defects or non-conformance of the activities, if any.
2. Assist in issuing Final Completion Certificate and releasing of dues or securities.
3. The above scope of work shall be carried out for the activities and areas.
Green feature

1. Long span over hangs with glazing reduce direct heat gain and gives natural lighting.
2. Orientation of the structure is based on solar analysis and visual dew has minimized the use of glass.

4. Rain water harvesting and storm water drainage with recharge bore wells help water conservation and

Awards
Indian Concrete Institute awarded a certificate of commendation to CRDF (CEPT Research and Development
Foundation) for outstanding concrete structure of Ahmedabad 2013 under the ‘public Building’ category.
