A CRITIQUE PAPER ABOUT TOKYO GHOUL (VOL.

1)

Tokyo Ghoul (Vol. 1)

Author: Sui Ishida

Type: Seinen

Theme: Drama, Horror, Supernatural

Ghouls live among humans. They are like them, live like them, act like them, but feed on them.
Ken, a shy young man is attracted to a girl who turns out to be a ghoul. She took advantage of his
weaknesses and attacked him with the purpose of eating him. But by a coincidence, the ghoul was
crushed and killed by beams. Seriously injured, the doctor of the hospital transplanted the organs of the
ghoul to Ken. He transformed little by little and thus becomes the first hybrid half-man half ghoul.

First of all, the theme
eatishim
quite original. Indeed, we do not often find a story of flesh eaters in the
field of manga. Add to this that this time, it was about a flesh eater with an intelligence so it is not like
any other cliché story about zombies. The flow of the story is also unpredictable which adds to the
excitement of the readers. Who would have thought that a lovely date will turn into a horrible event for
our hero?

About the drawings, they were illustrated well

and reflect the atmosphere very well. But from time to
time, it can’t be ignored that the fact that certain
action scenes are too “dark” which makes it difficult to
understand what is going on. Some readers would
rather skip that part and might miss an important part
of the story. Through the chapters in the story, it can
Ken vs. Jason also be seen that some changes in the physical
characteristics change little by little which makes it very realistic to the time flow of the manga.

Like many manga, the story depicts a student like others who finds himself in a situation that is
both exceptional and desperate. Ken finds himself on the border between humanity and monstrosity
and he cannot fight against “hunger” that drives him to want to eat human beings. He considers himself
as a tragedy hero. It is hard to foretell what will be
his choice: the world of humans, or that of ghouls.
The suspense is present throughout the story and
at the end of volume 1, few answers were
provided.

On the left side, was Ken as a human while on

the right was, Ken as a ghoul

But in my opinion, I would say that it is still much

better to follow a hero in a story who seeks to know
more about his nature as a ghoul, rather than to have a funky hero who does not stop complaining all
the time, and takes our heads along the manga with “I want to die” in most of the first parts of the
manga. But still, in the course of the manga, his evolution was interesting.

“Tokyo Ghoul” “Attack on Titan”

Overall, I like this manga. The characters are quite unpredictable, just like their adventures. The
scenario in the manga is also full of twists. I suggest that if you are fond of flesh eaters, a little
psychology, suspense, and even sometimes moving passages, all this brought together in a quiet day
and full of actions at night, try this manga. On the other hand, if you liked flesh eater with little or no
intelligence or want a series with real life-or-death stakes for the characters, then Attack on Titan is for
you.
