Traffic Problems Essay

Traffic congestion in many cities around the world is severe. One possible
solution to this problem is to impose heavy taxes on car drivers and use
this money to make public transport better. This essay will discuss the
benefits and drawbacks of such a measure.

One of the first benefits of such a measure is that the heavy taxes would
discourage car owners from using their cars because it would become very
expensive to drive. This would mean that they would begin to make use of
public transport instead, thus reducing traffic problems and pollution as
well. Another benefit would be that much more use would be made of
public transport if it was improved. It is often the case that public transport
in cities is very poor. For example, we often see old buses and trains that
people would rather not use. High taxes would generate enough money to
make the necessary changes.

Nevertheless, there are drawbacks to such a solution. First and foremost,

this would be a heavy burden on the car drivers. At present, taxes are
already high for a lot of people, and so further taxes would only mean less
money at the end of the month for most people who may have no choice
but to drive every day. In addition, this type of tax would likely be set at a
fixed amount. This would mean that it would hit those with less money
harder, whilst the rich could likely afford it. It is therefore not a fair tax.

To conclude, this solution is worth considering to improve the current

situation, but there are advantages and disadvantages of introducing such
a policy.

Leisure time
Leisure time is necessary for people after working and studying hard, and
there are various recreation activities to do base on oneself purpose. Many
people support the methods helping the mind getting better, while others
endorse the thinking to rest in free time, but it is more effective if we take
part in outside activities.

It is true that people can improve their personal ability by practicing

pursuits improving the mind. By doing the word puzzles, this activity helps
us raise the logical thinking and solve problems at work more effectively.
On the other hand, we can wider our knowledge and absorb more
information from many kind of books, the mental health will be better.

Standing at the other view, putting the mind at rest by enjoying media
entertainment, people reduce the stress. After long day at work or school,
we usually feel tired and need to relax. There are many channels such as
watching films, listening music and playing games, our mind will balance
again.

However, the pursuits of two sorts above have some disadvantages, such
as we feel more stressful when practicing the mind or to be not conscious
if using electronic entertaining methods, we should take outdoor actions.
When enjoying outside events, for instance, doing exercise or playing
sports bring about our physical health will be better, the mind will be
refreshed and having energies for new works.

In summary, doing activities, improving our mind in leisure time will

enhance our thinking but perhaps, also lead to feeling more stressful.
Meanwhile, laying the mind to rest helping us reduce work’s pressure,
however, we can feel graver. Personally, participating in outside pursuits is
good for both metal and physical health.

Living an Unhealthy Life

It is important to consider that why in today's fast paced life, people prefer
to live a ruinous lifestyle. In this essay I will explore some causes
associated with this and propose some solutions to tackle this issue.

First of all, the main reason which contribute to this problem is inflation
rate. Therefore, people need to work over time to fulfill their basic needs
which left them with less time for exercises and recreational sports. As a
consequence, they fail to balance between personal and professional life.
To illustrate, many time companies give double pay to employees for
working in over time. So, if they work over time for more money, very less
time left for their daily routine. Hence, they skip physical exercises.
However, to tackle this problem, governments should pass the ordinance
of fix working hours and national wage regulation. So that, people prefer to
leave work place on time, and because of this, they find some leisure time
for themselves.

Furthermore, in today's world, private club membership is becoming more

and more expensive and there are less public space to recreate. As a result
of this, people choose to avoid exercises. The reason for this is that, to
cope with excessive population growth, governments mostly focus to build
vertical concrete buildings rather that sports complex, parks and gardens.
Hence, people get demotivated to do exercises. In contrast, if governments
focus more on building recreational sports facilities or public gym, people
find them cheaper options and they begin to do exercises. Therefore, to
handle this situation, authorities should build more public spaces for free
time activities. So that, people can stay healthy.

In conclusion, while people are having more problems in many countries

around the globe because of unhealthy lifestyle, this problem is not
insurmountable. In my view, this the government's responsibility to tackle
this issue and they should begin by considering some of the proposed
solutions above. (282)
Pay attention during class time

Teachers are increasingly finding that their pupils do not pay full attention
or concentrate properly during class time. This essay will examine the
reasons for this and suggest some possible solutions.

One of the reasons for this is that teachers now lack the freedom to
discipline children. In the past, teachers could use any methods they felt
appropriate to control pupils in their class, even if this meant physical
punishment. However, the balance has now changed, with children aware
that there are limits to what a teacher can do and without this respect they
do not concentrate if they do not want to. There have, for example, been
cases were pupils have sued teachers for disciplining them too harshly.
Children should of course not be abused, but teachers must be given more
power to use the methods that they think appropriate to control the class
without fear of recrimination.

Another factor may be the diet of children. Research has widely reported
that the additives in a lot of the snacks and carbonated drinks that children
drink regularly can cause behavioural changes such as hyperactivity. This
may lead to a lack of ability to concentrate in class. To prevent this,
schools must make sure that these snacks are not available at the school.
Parents have a part to play as well, and they must ensure that their children
are not given too much of these types of snacks at home.

To conclude, children may have difficulty paying attention in class because

of a lack of discipline in schools and additives from snacks. However, the
solutions are to give more power back to teachers and to limit the
availability of certain foods.

Stress

Stress is a problem that can have detrimental effects on many people’s

lives, and there are various factors in modern society responsible for this.
However, there are ways to limit the potential impacts.

The modern world we live in today presents us with many issues that we
did not have to cope with in the past. Firstly, there are issues of terrorism
that we are constantly confronted with in the media. Whether these are real
or not, we are led to believe our lives are in constant danger, be it flying on
a plane or travelling on public transport. Climate change is another worry
that everyone has to face. The results of a significant rise in temperatures
could radically affect our ways of life, and our children’s too. There are also
more health issues to be concerned about than in the past, with rises in
alzheimer’s, diabetes, and stroke to name but a few. All of these concerns
can result in stress.

Tackling such problems will not be easy, but there are measures that can
be taken. Governments and the media could play their part by ensuring that
instead of persistently bombarding us with such negative images and
information about the world in which we live, we are given more positive
stories too. However, given this is unlikely to happen, we need to develop
our own strategies to distract us from these influences. Of course
exercising regularly is one thing we should do as this has been shown to
increase endorphin levels and lead to feelings of happiness. Sleeping
enough helps us to recuperate and restore our body. Finally, eating
properly can improve our health and result in less worry about potential
diseases.

All in all, although there are many factors around us today which lead to
stress, we can take steps to reduce it. Given that the strains we face in
modern society will likely get worse, ignoring it is not an option for many
people.

Are computers and tablets good for children

These days it is common to observe children spending significant amounts

of time on electronic devices such as computers and tablets. In my
opinion, the drawbacks of allowing children to do this outweigh any
advantages.

The benefit of this development is that it will keep children occupied. There
is no doubt that raising children and taking care of them can be stressful at
times for parents so allowing them to play on a device means that the
parents can have a break and not have to continuously entertain them. This
could potentially mean improved family relationships.

However, there are several disadvantages. Firstly, children's free time can
be better utilised with other activities. Although they may learn some
technological skills, they mostly just play games, and in any case computer
skills are now taught in school. Of much more benefit is encouraging
children to spend their free time interacting with other children, playing
with normal toys, and playing other games outside, which will foster their
creative, cognitive, and social skills.

In addition to this there is growing evidence that it can also have negative
health impacts. Research reported in the media claims that it can possibly
damage the eyes of a child when looking at screens for long periods.
Studies also indicate children using these devices may have more difficulty
sleeping, something which is crucial for mental development.

In conclusion, the drawbacks of allowing children to use computers and

tablets outweigh the benefits. While it may give parents more time, it could
damage their mental and physical development.
