CHAPTER 5- DEMOCRACY

1) To propose a law is the responsibility of legislature in India- True


● The members of the legislature are elected representatives of the people.
● People have entrusted the legislature the responsibility for enacting laws, as the real
power rests with the hands of the elected representative.

2) There is Presidential democracy in India- False


● India has adopted Parliamentary democracy
● The President is a titular head, the real power vests with the Prime Minister and the
Council of Ministers

3) Holding elections is necessary condition for the existence of democracy- True


● Citizens elect their representatives who can think, speak and act on behalf of the
people, make decisions and implement policies.
● In Indirect democracy the people entrust the power to their elected representative for
a specific period.

CHAPTER 6- POLITICAL PARTIES

1) Nationalists Congress Party is a regional party- False


● Nationalists Congress Party is recognised as a National Party by the Election
Commission of India
● Besides Maharashtra the party has its influence in Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland
and Assam.

2) When two or more than two parties come together and form a government it is call two party
system- False
● When two or more than two parties come together and form government it is called
multi- party system.
● Two or more parties come together to form a coalition government only in a
multi-party system.

3) People who share common political opinion form political party- True
● The members of a group that share similar views on a particular topic and come close
to each other form a political party.
● Each political party has its own policy or programmes.

CHAPTER 7- DEMOCRACY AND DIVERSITY.

1) No society is uniform in all respects- True


● Some differences are determined by birth and some other differences like language,
caste and religion are acquired.
● Some societies are diverse and others comparatively less diverse.
2) Caste system is like a hierarchy- True
● In a hierarchy, some caste are supposes to be upper caste and some lower caste.
● Traditional caste system even treats some castes as untouchables.

3) In many countries, even after the introduction of democracy women did not have the right to

● All societies witness secondary treatment given to women, as compared to men.
● It was considered that women are not capable to understand political issues and cast
vote on their own.

CHAPTER 8- CHALLENGES TO DEMOCRACY

1) There are no restrictions on citizens holding arms in US


● The American Constitution upholds the rights to life and personal liberty
● It has given individuals freedom to hold arms for personal security

2) Tolerance is a necessary component of democracy- True


● The primary responsibility of society is to create tolerance and respect for others
opinion.
● If a society is intolerant then it becomes a challenge before democracy.

3) Higher is the initiative, weaker the democracy will be- False


● Participation of people in public affairs strengthens democracy
● It ensures that the government is responsible to the people.
