WUTHERING HEIGHTS

EMILY BRONTE

Wuthering Heights is an English classic that entails a story of exquisite emotions. The author has made sure that
the reader feels a whirlwind of emotions just like the characters of Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw. The book
has earned itself quite a big cult for its style and plot and has also found itself as a reference in many popular
culture entertainments like films and music.

Wuthering Heights" recounts Heathcliff's fervent love and enthusiasm for Catherine Earnshaw. Heathcliff was
taken up by Catherine's dad as an adopted child tragedy strikes when Mr. Earnshaw dies and Heathcliff is
troubled and made aware of his adopted status by Catherine's sibling. The plot progresses on to explain how the
love grows between Catherine and Heathcliff as kids and how everything starts to change as they grow up and
social constructs like money and status come into play.

The story starts when a rich man called Mr Lockwood rents a house called Thrushcross grange. He arrives to
meet the landlord in the evening. We are then introduced to the protagonist, Mr. Heathcliff at Wuthering
Heights. At first interaction he seemed pleasant but Mr Lockwood is suspecting when he observed how rudely
Heathcliff talks to his family. Due to an unfavourable snowstorm, Lockwood has to stay in his landlords home.
He stays in the room of late Catherine and witnesses a nightmare of terrible proportions. He she's Catherine
jumping through a window. The following day, on his return to Thrushcross Grange, Lockwood asks his
servant, Nelly Dean, to share with him the account of how Wuthering Heights turned out to be so abnormal.
Lockwood then records the majority of Nelly's memories in his journal. This is how we uncover the entire tale.

When Mr Earnshaw dies, his biological son, Hindley, inherits Wuthering Heights and renders Heathcliff to a
lowly servant to deliver retribution on him. Despite the fact that Heathcliff was never again part of the family,
his association with Catherine was still ongoing with vigour. One evening the two chose to spy on the Linton
family that lived on Thrushcross Grange as a joke. In the whole process, a dog bites Catherine which makes her
stay at the Linton household for five weeks. This is a turning point in the relationship for Heathcliff and
Catherine as distance starts to grow more and more between the two. Another change is how Edgar Linton and
Catherine become dearer to one another.

Heathcliff then flees and just returns three years after the fact as an affluent man looking for vengeance on all
that have treated him terribly. Not surprisingly, Edgar to ask for Catherine’s hand in marriage and she said yes
despite her passionate love for Heathcliff. She does this so because Heathcliff has no education or societal
standing in contrast to Edgar. He first helps Hindley with money to finance his addictions. He goes on to inherit
Wuthering Heights when Hindley dies. He also inherits the Linton property by marrying Edgar's sister,
Isabella. The couple gives birth to child called Linton, named after Isabella’s family.

Catherine falls sick and gives birth to a baby girl named after herself, Catherine. She dies after a short while.
Edgar raises Catherine with the assistance of Nelly and she is kept inside nearness of Thrushcross Grange,
making her unconscious of Wuthering Heights. Isabella passes on and Linton comes to live with his Uncle,
anyway Heathcliff demands that he lives with him. He winds up treating Linton more regrettable than he treated
Isabella. Heathcliff then baits Catherine to Wuthering Heights, against her dad and Nelly's will, so as to visit her
cousin Linton, whom she had met a very long time previously. Linton and Catherine before long become
hopelessly enamored with one another, sending mystery letters to one another by means of the milkman. Nelly
gets some answers concerning this mystery sentiment and consumes the majority of the letters among them, thus
rather Catherine starts to escape around evening time to visit her now wiped out darling. It before long ends up
obvious that Linton does not genuinely cherish Catherine but rather is just seeking after her since his dad is
driving him to. At some point, when Mr Linton is exceptionally sick and near death, Heathcliff baits Catherine
and Nelly to Wuthering Heights and detains them until Catherine wedded Linton. Not long after this Mr
Lockwood dies, followed by Linton. This left the entire of Thrushcross Grange to Heathcliff, who was at long
last delivering retribution on Mr Linton. Heathcliff makes Catherine a worker at Wuthering Heights.

The story returns to the current state and Mr Lockwood chooses to leave Thrushcross Grange. He returns a half
year later to visit Nelly and discovers from her that Heathcliff had died, and that Hindley and Catherine had
acquired the majority of his riches, including Thrushcross Grange and Wuthering Heights. They had likewise
begun to look all starry eyed at one another and anticipated getting married on New Year's Day. At last, the
childrem of those he rendered retribution on turned into the recipients of the majority of his riches.

This novel takes us through a journey of undying love. We witness how one can be blinded and fuelled to do
anything and everything to achieve whom they love. We also witness a battle between culture and emotion.
Despite their love, Catherine and Heathcliff could never fully be together because of the standards of the society
they lived in.

I would suggest this novel to the individuals who love to be kept in suspense since the reader is never fully
aware about what will happen next. Overall, this was a good long read that meets the enticed souls desire.
