A SEMI- DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN TEACHING SCIENCE 10

July 1-5, 2019

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
a. describe the internal structure of the Earth;
b. discuss the possible causes of plate movement; and
c. enumerate the lines of evidence that support plate movement.
II. SUBJECT MATTER
a. Topic: The Earth’s Interior
b. Concepts: a. The Earth is made up of three layers: the crust, the mantle, and the core.
b. geology -the study of the structure, history, and activity of the solid Earth.
c. Geological phenomena such as earthquakes, volcanoes, and continental drift are
accounted for by plate tectonics.
c. Values: Obedience
d. Skills: Analyzing, Describing and Creating
e. Strategies: Interactive discussion, Inquiry approach, Video analysis and Peer tutoring
f. Materials: Projector, PowerPoint and video presentation, and Worksheet

g. References: Science 10 Learner’s Material pg. 39-72

III. PROCEDURE
1. Preliminary Activities
a. Greetings
b. Checking of Attendance
c. Checking of Assignment
d. Review
2. Motivation
Play an interactive game entitled “What’s Inside?”.
3. Discussion
A. Waves
1. Present a video presentation about Earth’s interior.
2. Use a projector to present to the class and progressively run through the slide to impart all the
key points about Waves:
3. Explain the different types of seismic waves.
4. Perform the activity number 1 “Amazing waves”
5. Discuss some point of clarifications.
B. Propagation of Seismic Waves Through Earth’s Interior
1. Discuss how geologies studies the earth’s interior using seismic waves.
2. Perform the activity number 2 “Simulating plasticity”
3. Discuss some point of clarifications
C. Solid Earth
1. Present a video presentation about the composition of earth.
2. Discuss the composition and structure of earth’s layers.
3. Discuss the four major zones of earth.
4. Enumerate some geological phenomena accounted by the movement of crust.
5. Discuss some evidences that support the movement of earth’s crust.
IV. GENERALIZATION

Students will draw diagram showing the layers of the earth and discuss the composition of each layer.

V. VALUES INFUSION
Students will give their opinion about this quotation, “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold
story inside you”.
VI. EVALUATION
Multiple Choice: Read and understand the sentences and questions. Encircle the letter of the best answer.
1. What makes up the lithosphere?
a. Continental crust c. Oceanic crust and continental crust
b. Crust and the upper mantle b. Upper mantle
2. Miners dig into the Earth in search for precious rocks and minerals. In which layer is the deepest
explorations made by miners?
a. Crust c. Mantle
b. Inner core d. Outer core
3. How do you compare the densities of the Earth’s crust, mantle, and core?
a. The mantle is less dense than the core but denser than the crust.
b. The mantle is less dense than both the core and the crust.
c. The mantle is denser than the core but less dense than the crust.
d. The mantle is denser than both the core and the crust.
4. The movement of the lithospheric plates is facilitated by a soft, weak and plastic-like layer. Which of
the following layers is described in the statement?
a. Asthenosphere c. Lithosphere
b. Atmosphere d. Mantle
5. Alfred Wegener is a German scientist who hypothesized that the Earth
was once made up of a single large landmass called Pangaea. Which
of the following theories did Wegener propose?
a. Continental Drift Theory c. Plate Tectonics
b. Continental Shift Theory b. d. Seafloor Spreading Theory

VII.ASSIGNMENT
1. Write a short story that describes the most exciting part of your own imaginary journey to
Earth’s center.
2. Bring the ff. (by group)
a. scissors
b. old magazines
c. brown envelope
