The purpose of this appointment is to check for occlusion, fit, tooth color, and overall aesthetics. It is also to take a
final wash impression and another bite registration.
Procedure
Dentist will try in denture
and evaluate occlusion and
tooth position. The patient
will then look with the
doctor to see if the patient
approves of the tooth set
up. If changes need to be
made that are minor the
dentist will do them
chairside. If major changes
need to be made the
denture may need to be
sent back to the lab.
Sometimes this requires a
new blue mousse bite
registration.
The assistant will apply tray adhesive to the entire inside of the denture and 5mm around the outside edge of the
denture. After this dries the dentist will apply light bodied impression material to the inside of the denture whilst the
assistant dries the patients tissue.
The denture will be placed in the mouth in the manner of taking an impression and the assistant will hand the dentist
the blue mousse impression gun to bordermold. The patient will be instructed to close into their normal bite and the
impression is left to sit for 5 minutes. The assistant will stay with the patient during this time but should NOT
talk to the patient.
When 5 minutes are up the denture impression is removed and evaluated. Sometimes more impression material will
need to be added to the impression and re-seated for 5 minutes. When the impression is satisfactory the denture is
placed back in the mouth and a blue mousse bite registration is taken.
Finally, the assistant should clean the patient up and dismiss them.
Box the case for the lab and fill out an lab form.
