• The students will be able to work in small groups or with a partner.
• The students will be allowed to use headphones to hear their video if wanted.

Lesson idea implementation:

To begin the lesson, I will go over what a historical figure is and what it means to be one. I will then
introduce who Martin Luther King Jr to the class and share a few videos to them about his life and impact on
our world. I will then explain to the class that we will be creating an iMovie of him and his life. Together, we
will discuss information about what he did and how he is significance. I will pull up a list of images that I
already pre-selected and have the students pick their favorite eight images to add to the video. We will also
vote on a clip of the video I show to incorporate into the iMovie. We will also vote on the music to tie into the
video at the end.
After the video is finished, we will publish the iMovie to the class webpage for students, friends, and
parents to watch as they please. The students will then be placed into groups of four and asked to select a
different historical figure that is listed on the board. Each group will be asked to pick a different figure. Then,
the students will be asked to work as a group top create a video that shows the significant of their historical
figure. After they finish, I will review and help edit their video that they created on whichever website that
they chose from the list. For example, they can use iMovie and Discovery Education as application to create
this video. Lastly, once I am done reviewing their videos, they will be asked to post each of the videos on the
class website.

Importance of technology:
This particular lesson, allows students to create and edit their own video regarding historical figures;
therefore, iMovie was the best option for this lesson. This entire lesson is all around technology and the use
of making a movie through the iMovie APP. Students will use the APP to create their own movie and publish it
for peers to view it. Without this, the entire lesson would not be able to happen. Technology is such an
essential part of lessons inside classrooms and can bring many lessons from a Loti 4 to a LoTi 5. This lesson
allows students to get their knowledge outside of the 4 walls and onto the web!
Inspiration (optional):
I created a model video on Martin Luther King Jr. for the students below this lesson plan. You will be able to
view this iMovie when you click the “MLK iMovie” button below.
Internet Safety and Student Privacy:
The students could see some inappropriate images when searching their historical figures name. I will make
sure that students are on web browsers that have the county block system in place. I will also make sure that
student’s parents are given a permission form the fill out and accept or decline the permission of their child’s
work going online. I will also review the videos myself to make sure that students do not have anything that is
not supposed to be online on their iMovie. The students will also be asked to use a pseudonym instead of
their real name on their project when posting it.
Reflective Practice:
In order to extend my lesson, I would get permission to take the class to Martin Luther King Jr.’s house.
Luckily, it is local and we would have the ability to get there. The students would be able to physically see the
house and museum to give live pictures that they could add to the video.
