Temperature-Dependent Charging CompuSave/ Protect

1. Brief Description
With this option a temperature-dependent characteristic curve is acti-
vated for trickle charge of the battery. The set value is then modified
linearly within specified limits. The measurement of the battery case
temperature required to this purpose is performed by a Pt-100 resi-
stance thermometer (temperature sensor) and a temperature measu-
ring amplifier "battery measuring amplifier".

2. Functional Description
The temperature measuring amplifier converts the sensor signal of a
Pt-100 resistance thermometer (temperature sensor) into a voltage
which is proportional to the temperature. The output circuit is isolated
from the temperature sensor.
The output voltage of the temperature measuring amplifier is supplied
to the rectifier control via the rectifier interface.
The voltage set value is then corrected linearly in accordance with the
measured temperature during trickle charge (see Figure 1).

The temperature coefficient can be permanently modified in the soft-

ware at the works. The temperature-dependent correction of the vol-
tage set value during trickle charge is performed once per minute.
The nominal value of the trickle charge voltage is always based on an
ambient temperature of 20°C. Correction of the set value is only per-
formed within a temperature range of 5°C to 60°C. If a text ABE is in-
stalled the measured temperature is indicated on a display. The mea-
suring accuracy is ± 1° Celsius. In the event of a broken connection
or at temperatures of > 40° or < 5° a fault message is output.

3. Installation and Connection

Temperature measuring amplifier A54 is a p.c.b. measuring 110 x 72
x 20 mm and is mounted in the unit using a distance piece on the
right-hand side of the control unit pivot frame (refer to the correspon-
ding description of the CompuSave/Protect).
The temperature sensor (grey plastic housing) is supplied loose with
the unit. The housing and sensor must be secured at a suitable loca-
tion in the battery case or in the battery cabinet.

Installation of the temperature sensor in the battery case

The temperature sensor must be mounted approximately one metre
above the floor at a draught-free location. To this purpose the supp-
lied cable must be extended if necessary and connected as shown in
Figure 2.
Installation of the temperature sensor in the battery cabinet
The sensor should be mounted approximately halfway up the cabinet.
The supplied cable must be laid accordingly and connected as shown
in Figure 2.
Electrical connection
The temperature measuring amplifier is connected to the temperature
sensor with a cable (e.g. H07) (see Figure 2).
The necessary internal unit wiring between the temperature measu-
ring amplifier and the rectifier interface is routed either via plug con-
nection X1 or via X2 of the temperature measuring amplifier depen-
ding on the unit configuration (see Figure 3 and 4).
