The document outlines vehicle live load calculations for the design of an FAO pumping station in Al Faw, Iraq. It considers the maximum expected heavy vehicle of 25.5 tons on a rear triple axle and calculates the load per wheel to be approximately 100 kN. The total load from axial force and 30% impact is determined to be 130 kN. Based on a 10,000 kg mass vehicle braking from 30 km/hr over 50 m, the braking force is calculated to be approximately -6,900 N.

PUMPING STATION AL FAW – BASRAH, IRAQ , Project No. : A34501
Vehicle Live Load Calculation (LL):
Vehicle type Considered
in design = 25.5 Tons Rear Triple Axle (or) 20 Tons per Axle (or) 200 kN per Axle As per SPC-CD-08 clause 4.4 (Design Criteria for Roads Pavings and Miscellaneous), The maximum expected heavy vehicle traffic is from 25.5 Tons rear triple axle vehicles (25.5 Ton / 3 Axle) = 8.5 Ton per Axle ; Approximately 9 Ton per Axle
It is assumed that there are 4 Wheel per axle
Therefore, load in each Wheel = 100 kN (90 kN / 2 wheel) = 22.5 kN
Use an approximate value of = 100 kN (Axial load per vehicle location)
Impact load ( 30 % of vertical Load) = 30 kN
Therefore total load inclusive of Axial + Impact = 130 kN
Mass (M) = 10000 kg
Min.Speed of Vehicle = 30 km/hr Assumed Uniform retardation distance= 50 m
Kinetic Energy = Work Done by Brakes
Velocity (V) = 8.3 m/s
Kinetic Energy (KE) = 1/2 * MV2
= 347222 Joules
Braking Force = KE / Uniform retardation distance
= -6944.44 N Use an approximate value of = -6900 N -6.9
(Negative sign indicates that the braking force is opposite to vehicle direction)
