Objectives:
 To introduce fundamental concepts of soft computing techniques.
 To explain various architectures & algorithms of neural networks.
 To learn fuzzy sets, fuzzy logic, rough sets and genetic algorithms.
Expected Outcomes:
On completion of this course, students will be able to
 To analyze the given computational task for its appropriateness of applying soft computing
techniques.
 To apply soft computing techniques for practical applications.
 To design a soft computing system required to address a computational task.

2 Memory Models:

4 Fuzzy sets:
Introduction, fuzzy sets, operations, fuzzy relations, membership 6 1

5 Fuzzy logic and approximate reasoning:
Fuzzy truth values, fuzzy propositions, fuzzy rules, formation, 7 2
decomposition and aggregation of rules, fuzzy reasoning, FIS, Fuzzy
Decision Making.
6 Rough Sets:
Information & decision systems, indiscernability, set approximations, 5 7
properties of rough sets, rough memberships, reducts, and
approximations.

Genetic algorithms, hybrid systems.
