Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Kahoot! supports UDL in the following ways:
• Students are able to access the information in multiple ways
• The teacher is able to customize the amount of time given to answer the questions. More time can be
allotted for students that need it.
• Kahoot! can be a way to activate prior knowledge or be used as a tool to review information students
already know about the topic.
• Data is provided which can be used to gather information on how well students understood the topic
and guide future instruction.
• It is a way to get the students engaged and motivated to learn because of the competition
component.
Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
The students will have previously learned how to identify the tens and ones place, identify the comparing
symbols along with their meaning and have learned how to compare one digit numbers. I will introduce the
Kahoot! by explaining to the students that we will be playing a game that is designed to check their
understanding of how to compare two-digit numbers based on the meanings of the tens and ones place
value.
Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☒ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☒ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☒ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☐ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Student Response and Assessment Tools
Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:
During the Kahoot! students will be answering 10 questions about comparing two-digit numbers using the
signs <, >, or =. Students will receive points based on if they got the answer correct.
Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):
☒ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☐ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☐ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):
n/a
Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?
☒ Yes ☐ No
☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☒ Yes
☐ No
Why or why not?
Students will receive immediate feedback on their responses and the correct answers will be discuss as well
as why the other choices were incorrect. This will also help determine any misconceptions that were
presented.
Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?
After the Kahoot! as a class we will review the questions, discuss the answers, and answer questions along
with addressing any misconceptions that presented itself during the SRT activity. Once we have finished
discussing, students will then have the opportunity to have more practice with comparing two-digit numbers.
They will create a short 5 question quiz and switch with a partner. Students will take each other’s quiz and
then switch back for grading. Once they have completed the quizzes, we will discuss any other questions they
have and I as the teacher will collect the quizzes and post them on our class blog, so students have access to
other quizzes for practicing.
How will the data be used?
The data collected from the Kahoot! will show me what misconceptions students have which will allow me to
determine what areas I will need to reteach based on how students did. I will use this information to help me
guide the rest of my lesson for the week and determine what extra practice can be given to help the students
succeed. Students will also receive a data sheet based on their performance during the Kahoot! so they are
aware of their understanding of this topic. This will help them be accountable pf their learning and
understand what they may be struggling with or what areas they are strong in.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.
My personal learning goal for this activity is for students to understand how to compare two-digit numbers
based on the meaning of the tens and ones place. They will be able to understand that place value is
important when comparing numbers and can be used in real life situations.
Reflective Practice:
To extend this lesson, I will allow students to create their own quizzes and share them with the other students
in the classroom as a way to peer asses. The questions that the students create can be made into another
Kahoot! which can be posted on the classroom blog for additional practice at home. This will allow students
to think about the content and gain a better understanding of it to provide the correct answers.
