CASE STUDY

SECTION A
FIELD OVERVIEW

The given is an offshore field located on the eastern margin of India. The first exploratory well was
drilled in 2005 to test the hydrocarbon potential within sandstone reservoir. Then 2 more wells are
drilled in which the third well A3 cannot bear oil. The metre depth below rotatory table of oil bearing
wells are given the diamond sand’s presence shows that the polycrystalline diamond bit is being
used as diamond sand is coarser than normal sand.

SCENARIO 1

Oil zone in two wells from separate pools

If oil zone of two wells is from separate pools then they must lie near to each other and have
different structure. The pool 1 must be of the form of a fault and second be a dome. As the PVT data
of both are same the pools must not be located very far and have similar depths as the aturation
pressure and formation volume factor (defined as the ratio of the volume of oil (plus the gas in
solution) at the prevailing reservoir temperature and pressure to the volume of oil at standard
conditions). For both the wells the formation volume factor is less than 1.2 bbl/STB .Gas oil ratio is
less than 200 scf/STB and oil gravity is near to 40 API Hence it will have a low pressure temperature
phase diagram as shown below. The oil is black or deeply coloured

A typical phase diagram of low shrinkage

Substantial recovery at point G on the 85 per cent of quality line.

In this scenario the generated fluid contact will be shown as

Scenario 2

If Oil zone in the two wells form a combined single pool Then first well is drilled perpendicularly to
the reservoir while the second well is drilled directionally towards the first well and enter the
reservoir below the depth of second. Hence the pressure gradient graph is having a missing point
discontinuity. In this case ideal structure of reservoir must be anticline ass the saturation pressure
and formation volume factor along with oil gravity is same.

Problem 2

7758∗𝐻∗𝐴∗∅∗(1−𝑆𝑤)
For finding the volume estimation we will use the formula 𝐵
Where H is for Height,
A is for area in acre , phi is porosity, Sw is irreducible water saturation and B is Volume factor. The
estimated volume comes in BBL /STB

Section B

The B field is offshore In the KB basin in a water depth of about 90 metre The discovery well was
drilled in 1985. Till date 8 exploratory wells are dug where b-4 and b-6 are proven to be dry.

PROBLEM 3
Pore permeability obtained from core allign with The relation obtained by timur equation and we
will have to calculate all constants

Where Phi is the reservoir porosity and Swc is irreducible water saturation provided the rock type and
the grain size does not vary over the zone of interest, which is satisfying our given condition.
