Exercise 1: Creating a new web page

Objectives:
a) To learn how to create a web page with the title "My Home Page" using FrontPage.
b) To save file in a known location, and to understand the meaning of "path" and
"filename".
c) To understand basic HTML tags, such as "HTML", "BODY", and "TITLE".
d) To understand the difference between the Page View and the HTML view in Web
browsers.

1. Open MS FrontPage. A new document appears, "new_page_1.htm". Check that the


"Page View" icon is depressed (icons on left side of window)
2. Type "My First Home Page".
3. Center your text, make it bold, and increase font size to "6 (24 pt)".
4. Does the title bar of your document still say "new_page_1.htm"? If not, what does it say?

5. Save your document using "File -->Save As.." command, giving it a name "home.htm",
and placing it in a new folder, "MyFirstWeb"
6. What information is in the title bar of your document now (it should end in
"home.htm")? Please write the information here:_______________________________
7. The above information gives the "path" and the "filename" for your document. Quit
FrontPage and find your document by opening up folders. Use the path and filename to
help you find your document.
8. Double-click on your document to open it -- it should open in Internet Explorer (a "web
browser"). What is written in the title bar of the window (blue row, very top of window)?

9. View the HTML source code of your First Web Page document by using the View menu
("View --> Source" command).
10. Close Internet Explorer windows.
11. Open FrontPage again, and use the File --> Open command to open your Web page
document.
12. View your page (Page View) with the "Normal" tab, then the "HTML" tab, then the
"Preview" tab.
13. Return to "Normal". Right-click on white space to pop up menu. Choose "Page
Properties". Change the title of your page in the Page Properties dialog box to
"Ms.Teacher's Home Page" (substitute your name for "Teacher"). Click "OK". Save your
page and close your window.
14. Re-open your page in Internet Explorer (as in steps 7 & 8 above). What is written in the
title bar of the window (blue row, very top of window)? Look at the HTML source code
(View --> Source). What is inside the TITLE tags? Please write it here:
