Globalization: Leading towards Economic Success or Destruction

What is globalization? How does this affect the economical, political and cultural systems of the
Philippines? Does globalization bring benefits or does it automatically lead to chaos and destruction? If
these are facts, what impacts will it serve the society? Some may argue that globalization brings positive
development that will give rise to new industries and opportunities. Others may say it has bad implications
in developing nations such us terrorism and environmental destruction. Certainly, the concept of world
integration gives many questions and controversial issues.
As stated by Villanueva (2010), Philippines is one of the developing countries in Asia that has been greatly
influenced by globalization. Because of globalization, there are positive effects arises in our country. In
education, globalization enhances student’s ability to acquire knowledge, to think independently. It also
encourages students to work in teams and collaborate with each other to develop their skills to become
globally competitive. Globalization increases access and develops technology that is why education has
been globalized. For example, studying does not always mean attending classes daily. Students now can
study online and have an online lecturer. Because globalization influenced our country, there are lots of
job opportunities open for the Filipinos which can help them provide their basic needs in life. Moreover,
there are other opportunities Filipinos can have outside the country such as teachers, engineers, domestic
workers , construction workers, etc. Globalization also has an impact in our economic growth. Our country
engages in exchange of trades with other countries. We let other countries and companies to invest on us
which helps increase our economy. However, aside from the positive development of globalization in our
country, it can also lead to some negative effects . First, it can lead to terrorism. It is presently active in our
country. It produces widespread fear and attention to the media. It harasses and weakens our government
security forces that causes to overreacts with them. Terrorism can destroy facilities and infrastructures in
the country and discourage foreign investments and assistant programs which affects our country’s target
economy. Second, it causes our environment to be ruined. More product demands here in our country also
increases our demand in factories. That’s probably why increased number of factories and transportation
will cause lots of pollutions that may lead to global warming.
To sum up, globalization has positive and negative effects in our country. We can exchange goods, money
and ideas foster and cheaper than ever before. It opens different job opportunities and globalizes our
educational system. On the other hand, it can lead to terrorism and several environmental destructions
such as global warming and climate change.
