Directions: Reflect on your learning and leadership development in Leadership Cycle 3 by responding to the
following prompts (up to 3 pages) in terms of your leadership capacity to support teacher growth within the
professional learning context of the school. Type your responses within the brackets following each prompt.
Do not delete or alter the prompts.

1. Evaluate your strengths and areas for improvement for coaching and observing a teacher’s
practice in relation to selected CSTP. Based on this experience, what professional learning
needs in relation to coaching a teacher to improve instruction and meet student needs have
you identified for yourself and explain why you think you should work on them.
[The teacher I observed exhibited many strengths and met several CSTP standards. She
demonstrated strengths in Standard 1.1, 1.2., and 1.4 The teacher engaged her students with
different learning materials and incorporated the use of technology in her lesson. She
encouraged students to use their critical thinking skills to solve problems. When students had
difficulty coming up with an answer, the teacher would refer them to get assistance from their
peers. By doing so, she created and promoted a responsibility of caring for their classroom
community (Standard 2.1). The only improvement I would recommend would be in Standard 6. I
would encourage the teacher to self-reflect and create goals for herself to improve student
achievement.
After my observation, I realized that I would like to improve on Standard 6. It is important to self-
reflect and create goals for myself in improving teaching techniques to meet the needs of my
students. It is important to collaborate with teachers, and I would also improve on meeting with
teachers around me to receive feedback on my instruction so that I may enhance student
achievement. I would like to improve on communicating and connecting with families. Student
achievement heightens when both school and home entities are working together to encourage
and support each student.]
2. Reflect on and cite evidence of how effectively during this cycle of coaching and observation
you maintained a high standard of professionalism, integrity, and equity during your
coaching interactions with the volunteer teacher.
[I demonstrated professionalism by reviewing teacher standards and being prepared to observe
the teacher and her classroom. I made sure I had supplies ready ahead of time to demonstrate
respect to students and the teacher. I also took not on observable action and avoided using
opinion that may not reflect the situation. I made sure to meet with the teacher ahead of time
and explain why I was observing her class to eliminate any sense of anxiety or stress. I made
sure to keep the teacher informed of the observation process and not surprise her additional
information.]
a. How were you able to facilitate a two-way conversation that encouraged teacher voice
and ownership of their strengths and areas for growth based on evidence of practice in
relation to the CSTP?
[I reviewed with her the notes that I took over the observation. I wrote down her strengths in the
classroom and shared positive feedback and points based on CSTP standards. I also gave her
a copy of my notes and listed the strengths and improvements based on CSTP standards along
with samples when each standard was displayed during the observation. The teacher had the

opportunity to self-reflect and share what she would like to improve on based on my
observation.]
3. Informed by a continuous improvement mindset and focus on equitable leadership, what are
your next steps to coach and support this teacher to improve instruction and meet student
needs?
[I would recommend reviewing CSTP standards and will encourage continuous self-reflection to
improve student engagement and achievement. I would also informally observe this teacher to
learn from her expertise and share them among new teachers and staff. I would provide
feedback when needed and would provide support when needed as well. The teacher has many
years of experience and her experience is demonstrated thought her students
accomplishments. I would encourage this teacher to collaborate with others to think and share
ideas to improve student testing in all areas. her to receive feedback or ideas for other teaching
methods.]
