a. Fundamentación y descripción
3. Que, cuando sea pertinente, analicen las continuidades y los cambios de la teoría
de espacio, tiempo y afines y/o de las teorías gnoseológicas, metafísicas y
científicas que se presentan en las distintas obras de los pensadores y pensadoras
propuestos;
4. que, en los casos de los temas discutidos a la par por algunos/as de estos autores/as,
puedan relacionar sus concepciones;
5. que puedan vincular los distintos puntos de vista propios del contexto de la
historia y la filosofía moderna con la incidencia de problemas semejantes en los
ámbitos de discusión antiguos y contemporáneos;
Unidad I. Descartes.
a. Presupuestos del problema. Teorías sustancialistas: Sustancia, atributos, modos. Las
distinciones y sus clases: real, modal y de razón. Sustancia y
permanencia/persistencia en el cambio.
b. Espacio y tiempo en una ontología de sustancia, atributo, modo. La extensión de
la sustancia extensa. Identidad materia, espacio (extensión). Rechazo del atomismo
e inexistencia del vacío. El tiempo (continuo) del movimiento de los cuerpos, el
tiempo (discontinuo) de la existencia de las mentes. La no-sustancialidad del
tiempo. La ambigüedad temporal: ¿atributo de existencia o del ser en tanto ser?
Vida durativa e inmortalidad sempiterna.

Unidad II. Henry More, Elisabeth de Bohemia y Pierre Gassendi
Las objeciones de More a Descartes. La oposición a la distinción espíritu-materia. La
extensión de los espíritus. La omnipresencia y extensión de Dios. Extensiones
intangibles penetrables y extensiones tangibles impenetrables. El vacío de los cuerpos
y el pleno de los espíritus. De la posibilidad del atomismo a la independencia del
espacio respecto de la materia. Las oscilaciones de More y la duda de Descartes: Dios,
el mundo y el problema del posible paralelismo entre infinitud espacial y eternidad
temporal. Algunas objeciones coincidentes de Elisabeth de Bohemia y Pierre
Gassendi.

Actividades planificadas
Las clases se organizarán en dos partes. La primera mitad consistirá en la exposición de los docentes
a cargo acerca de la introducción general a los temas de cada unidad, los problemas a analizar acerca
de los mismos y la distribución de tareas a realizar por los/as alumnos/as. La mitad restante se
destinará a las exposiciones de los/as cursantes y demás actividades que se vayan proponiendo.
g. Recomendaciones
Se recomienda tener ya cursada (o mejor aún aprobada) la materia HISTORIA DE LA
FILOSOFIA MODERNA y la aprobación de los niveles (o equivalente) de al menos un idioma
extranjero.
