Hungry Jacks in a fast food company in Australia which is a franchise

company of Burger King. It is wholly owned subsidiary of Competitive


Foods Australia. Hungry Jacks is privately owned by Jack Cowin and
owns above 390 locations around Australia. It had employed around
15,000 employees in the year of 2010 and the numbers has been
growing since .Hungry jacks also inculcated a vision stating that “to be a
company that strives for better, through our service. Moreover; the
cultural pillars encompass all of the current values which are considered
important to the success of the Hungry Jacks. This includes Best people,
Better service, Community and Integrity.

In the persistent changing business environment, businesses (Hungry


Jacks) are adapting diversity policies and strategies that appeal to their
employees, clients, vendors and suppliers. Diversity in the workplace
brings with it a host of potential benefits, as well as potential conflicts
for businesses to manage.

Workplace diversity means creating an inclusive environment that


accepts each individual's differences, embraces their strengths and
provides opportunities for all staff to achieve their full potential.

Diversity has to do with more than race or ethnicity. Diverse workplaces


are composed of employees with varying characteristics including, but
not limited to, religious and political beliefs, gender, ethnicity, education,
socioeconomic background, sexual orientation and geographic location.
Valuing differences allows each person to contribute their unique
experiences to the workplace and can impact positively on not only
internal activities and relationships, but the experiences of customers
and other stakeholders as well.

Hungry Jacks discover techniques to integrate diversity into their


workplace without causing key deviations to the way they operate.
Integrating diversity practices in a workplace can contain employing
from diverse talent pools to make the Hungry jacks open to employees
(Crew) from various backgrounds. Diversity may be infused into
advertising practices to ensure that production of burgers and service
are targeted to all consumers who represent the target market (Australia
as whole), whether through print, online, television or radio.

A company that embraces diversity can broaden its skill base and
become more competitive and innovative. However, workforce diversity
also brings with it a number of issues and challenges.

As per Hungry Jack’s Operational procedure system, there is a


multicultural and renowned equal opportunity employer and at all times
seeks to recognise and be sensitive to the diversity of individual
employees’ country of origin, cultural practices, religious beliefs and
their associated garments or adornments could be worn.
There are many benefits that Hungry Jacks would encounter by having a
diverse work environment. One major benefit of incorporating a diverse
work environment would be that there is creativity and innovation.
When a diverse pool of employees (Crew) recruited they have different
perceptions views therefore allows more creative ideas that could come
into running the Hungry jacks it could also help Marketing activities.

The decisions made could improve with diverse background, educated


crew would help in making wise decisions especially when running a
shift in hungry jacks more wastages could occur if they do not follow the
right procedures and policies therefore a diverse group of
employees(crew) would help increase productivity of Hungry jacks.

In order to attract the best of people, leadership teams need to be more
accepting and sympathetic for employees to feel valued and appreciated
with respect. When the leaders have earned their respect, the
employees would do the best they can in order for the organization to
grow[ CITATION Hen17 \l 1033 ]. The key to organizational growth is to
manage workforce diversity and nurture the understandings and
appreciation in everyone’s differences.

The best way to achieve a productive and diverse environment is not


only leadership but with the use of other strategies alongside. Managing
diversity in the workforce starts by focusing on:
 Connect- Every employee is driven differently, therefore it is
important to connect with them in order to know what
motivates them. Having the time to know and inquire about the
employees personally and see what makes them passionate
might just uncover their encouraging lever[ CITATION Bla17 \l
1033 ]. By doing this you can understand what works which
makes it easier for you to engage each team member by
providing them the information they need[ CITATION Bla17 \l
1033 ].
 Building and maintain a safe work place environment- It is
important that every employee feels safe and comfortable at
where they work[ CITATION Rea13 \l 1033 ]. Therefore, action
needs to be taken against inappropriate work behavior such as,
harassment, discrimination, bullying and victimization. Hungry
Jack’s is a huge supporter against appropriate work behavior
and doesn’t tolerate and work place behavior that is
disapproved [ CITATION Rea13 \l 1033 ].
 Decision making process- When making decisions it is important
to provide opportunity to consider a diversity of views, which
will eventually lead to better team work, more productivity and
other outcomes. Hungry Jacks believes that it is important to get
ideas from all employees as a vast diversity will have different
opinion and views on decisions that would actually surprise the

 Celebrating important events- Celebrating events such as;
International women’s day, different important cultural days of
the team members in hungry jacks, Gay pride celebrations,
international day for person with disabilities, and end of racism
day. By choosing to celebrate days like this depending on the
diversity of members in Hungry jacks shows that they value their
employees and recognize diversity proving them to have
exceptional leadership and commitment skills [ CITATION

 Equal employment opportunities- Hungry jacks facilitates equal
employment opportunities based on the employee’s ability,
potential and performance. Due to this reason you can be of any
gender, age, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation and much
more but you will still get the chance to work at Hungry jack’s as
long as you have the right qualifications to work there[ CITATION
Hen17 \l 1033 ].
 Creating programs to build relationships and skills- It is
important that employees have something to look forward to
while working, that gives them a little push and motivation.
Which Is why hungry jack’s crew members have rewards like
employee of the month based on their performance
level[ CITATION Hun18 \l 1033 ].

Using motivational theories to manage the work force is important and


can help in building a better work place for the employees. Motivational
theories such as Maslow’s hierarchy of needs which is a five-stage
theory that places the needs for a person’s needs in different categories
and priorities. The five categories are; Physiological needs, safety and
security needs, social needs, esteem needs and self-actualization needs.
Maslow’s theory tries to explain the basis of job satisfaction. Crew
members of Hungry jacks like everyone have needs to be satisfied.
Beside the basic needs for food, shelter and safety, they also need
appreciation from their leaders, customers and colleagues [ CITATION
Bad17 \l 1033 ].

Workplace diversity is unavoidable. Diversity can help improve the


company’s development by allowing fresh ideas and perspectives.
