Attendance: Attendance is critical! If you are going to be absent or tardy, inform the
instructor ahead of time via the form on the class website or email. It is also important
to review materials online and obtain the missed handouts as soon as possible by
asking the instructor. Always check the class website and TeacherEase for missed
work. Be sure to make up all the assignments that show up as missing in TeacherEase.

Materials: It is essential that students come to class prepared everyday. All Students
should bring writing utensils (pencils and pens), paper, and an eraser to every
class. Students should also complete the homework assignments and turn them in
daily. If an activity requires additional materials, I will give notice well in advance.

Parental Communication: I will send out daily update emails to all parents, who are
expected to read them in their entireties. Students and parents should also be checking
the class website and TeacherEase regularly to stay up to date with the classroom’s
current events. I will strive to update both areas daily. Parents who are engaged in their
student’s academics will be the most satisfied with what they get out of this course.

Food and Drink Policy: Food is never allowed in the classroom, unless otherwise
specified by the instructor. Drinks are allowed in the classroom if they are in a
container with a re-sealable lid. Please inform the instructor about any allergies.

Please treat everyone with respect. Whether it be your teacher, classmates, NWCS
staff, parents, or yourself, be kind to them. Disrespectful behavior is unacceptable!

Grading Procedures: In this class, overall percentages will be calculated using a total
points system. The formula is: total points earned/total points possible. The overall
percentage will then be converted into a letter grade (scale on TeacherEase). There will
be multiple assignments throughout the course that will all account for different point
values. The more points an assignment is worth, the higher the weight of the
assignment is towards the overall course grade. Although there are no weighted
categories, unweighted categories will still be utilized to report areas in which a student
is strong in, as well as areas that may need some more work. There will be a final exam
that will have a larger effect on grades. All students will receive a report card at the
end printed and online. The goal is to report a student’s current academic proficiency.

Homework: Class periods are devoted to CogAT/gifted test preparation, language arts,
math, and the sciences. In accordance, students will take a math placement exam at the
beginning of the course to provide a baseline of their math skills, and comprehensive
homework will be assigned daily. Math skills will progress and fluctuate based on
performance. I provide the curriculum, while parents are expected to provide
instruction and aid. Math work is sometimes collected and graded. Other general
homework includes worksheets and assigned workbook problems that serve as
extension practices of what was taught in class. They will always be collected and
graded. Students are expected to write their first and last name on all work that
they turn in or else they will receive point deductions. All homework will be posted to
the website and included in the daily emails. Students may be expected to print them.

Life happens. Late work is accepted up to the day of the final exam with a valid reason.

Academic dishonesty is not tolerated and will result in serious disciplinary action.

*Student Rewards: I will be setting up a system to reward those students who

consistently demonstrate good behavior and outstanding performance. These rewards
are purchased directly from the class funds, which you can donate to. Although it is
optional, a recommended donation amount ranges from $20-$30. You can donate
through cash, check, or corporate matching funds. Cash and checks go directly to me
while corporate matching funds go to the NWCS Admin. Thank you in advance!
