II.

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to determine the impact of the program of the Government on
the treatment of tuberculosis that would reflect and suggest for the improvement of the
society making them an effective members of the community through the help of our
government through its government instrumentalities and institutions (e.g.) DepED,
DOH and etc. and to determine the compliance of TB patients with the prescribed
treatment in selected three barangays in Leyte namely: Brgy. Capudlosan, MacArthur
Leyte; Brgy. 78 Marasbaras, Tacloban City and Brgy. Dapdap, Alangalang Leyte. The
study specifically aimed to: (1) describe the demographic profile of the respondents in
terms of age, gender, civil status, occupation, monthly income, and type of family that
they have ; (2) identify the sources of information regarding the DOH programs on
treatment of tuberculosis; (3) identify the respondents’ reasons for seeking treatment; (4)
identify where the respondents sought treatment; (5) determine the percentage of the
respondents that complied and did not comply with the prescribed treatment and their
reasons for doing so; (6) determine whether or not the respondents were satisfied with
the government programs and if they were not satisfied, their reasons for saying so; and
(7) determine the effectiveness of HEALTH EDUCATION by the government regarding
tuberculosis. The study adopted the descriptive type of research using the survey
method. The respondents comprised the entire population of TB patients who have
registered for treatment by the government institutions in each barangay. A self-
structured questionnaire based on the objectives of the study was used as the research
instrument. The questionnaire was translated into the local dialect (Waray-Waray) and
was subjected and was subjected to a dry run to validate if the translation was
comprehensible to the lay people. The survey was conducted on a house-to-house basis.
The questionnaire was answered by respondents who could read; for respondents who
cannot or find it difficult to read, the questions were read to them and their answers were
written by the researchers. The data gathered were summarized and analyzed by means
of Frequency, Distribution, and Percentage. It has been shown that majority of the
respondents were satisfied with the Government’s program on TB.
