T Reference: Bucyrus Weld Standards WS300, WS900
E -Insure all electrodes are kept dry according to Bucyrus Intl. Welding Standards. Do not expose
R electrodes to any contaminants such as grease, oil, water or any other possible sources of moisture.
S Follow WS801 guidelines for drying time and temperatures.
-Perform MT according to Quality Standards QS6810.
PREPARATION & INSPECTION:
1. Thoroughly clean surfaces to be welded of all dirt, oil, paint, and grease. Any possible sources of
P moisture or contaminants must be removed.
R 2. Shape excavated area to form suitable weld groove. Weld groove shall be wide enough at its top
O to permit proper manipulation of welding gun or welding electrode.
C 3. NDT provider to provide MPT or PT for compliance after any grinding.
E WELDING TECHNIQUE:
D 4. Uniformly preheat repair area to 400°F (Temp. held a minimum 3” away from weld in all directions)
U and maintain preheat during welding. Do not let temperature fluctuate during repair and always
R maintain this minimum temperature.
E 5. Weld as required using above parameters. Thoroughly chip and wire brush all welds immediately
after depositing. Make sure to add enough stock to allow for proper cleanup.
6. Blend all starts and stops.
7. After completion of welding let repair slowly cool by wrapping in insulating blankets (such as
kaowool).
8. MPT or PT to insure no cracks.
FINISHING & INSPECTION:
9. Grind and blend to match original part profile.
10. Remove all undercut.
11. No under fill permitted.
12. MPT or PT repair to insure no cracks. Also insure no other defects present such as slag inclusions
or porosity.
