MATERI 3
WISH AND HOPE

1. Wish + Clause (Mengharapkan/ ingin)

Contoh Kalimat:
I wish I could help you. (Artinya: Saya berharap saya dapat membantumu)
I wish I know your address. (Artinya: Saya ingin tahu alamatmu)
2. Hope + that clause (Mengharap)
Contoh Kalimat:
I hope that you have done the test.
I hope that we shall get much money.
(Artinya: Saya harap kita dapat memperoleh banyak uang)

The difference between "wish" and "hope"

• Wish is most commonly used in hypothetical (or imagined/unreal)
situations:
Example:
I wish (that) you were here. (Unfortunately, you're not, and I miss you.)
• Sometimes wish is used in greeting and expressions of goodwill:
Example:
We wish you a "Merry Christmas."
• Hope can also be used in expressions of goodwill
• Hope can also be used in expressions of goodwill, but the grammar is
slightly different:
Examples:
I hope (that) you have a Merry Christmas. (some time in the future)
I hope (that) you had a nice Birthday. (some time in the past)
Hope can be used to specify a desired outcome. For future hopes, the
possibilities remain open, but for past hopes, the outcome has usually been
determined already.
Examples:
I hope you can come to the party on Saturday.(future possibility)
I was hoping that you would come to the party.(but you didn't)
I had hoped to see you at the party on Saturday. (but I didn't)

To My Beloved Caitlyn,

You are always on my mind, I can't stop thinking about you. The first
thoughts when I wake, and the last thoughts before I go to sleep are of
you. I am such a lucky guy to have found such a wonderful woman. I miss
you so much, it has been too long since the last time I saw you.

Your smile is so beautiful and magical. Every time that I think of your
smile it lights me up inside. Even when I am having a really bad day,
seeing you smile makes me want to smile too and it makes me forget
about the previous events of the day.

Caitlyn, you must be the most caring person on earth. You seem to have
an unlimited amount of patience and kindness. Every time I make a
mistake you are right there to support me. The time that you drove 300
miles just to take care of my sick mother when I was away is just one
example of your big heart.
I have had such a great time with you no matter what we are doing. As
long as you are around, even doing the most mundane activity is fun. I
hope that we'll see each other every day when I come back, I want to
spend as much time with you as possible. I miss you so much.

CONTOH PROCEDURE TEXT - HOW TO RIDE A BICYCLE

 Sitting on the bike, make sure you know where the brakes are and how to
operate them.
 You have to learn to balance the bike. Find a person who can hold your
bike behind you and try to steady it as you pedal. Also find a place to
ride that is grassy or such.
 After practicing for a couple minutes, the person can release his or her
hands while you try to keep your balance.
 When you are ready, ride alone. But first lower the seat until you can sit
on it and put both feet flat on the ground.
 When you are confident you can put your feet on the pedals and coast for
a few feet, try not putting your feet down to train your sense of balance.
Do this for 30-45 minutes or so, until you have a good feel and some
confidence about steering the bike.
 As you gain experience, raise the seat up so that only your toes can touch
the ground while you are seated. This is the more appropriate height for
your seat.
 Finally, you have to practice.
 Once you can balance, pedal, start, and stop, you're a bicycle rider.
Congratulations!

Learning English
Learning English through music and songs can be very enjoyable. You can mix pleasure with learning
when you listen to a song and exploit the song as a means to your English progress. Some underlying
reason can be drawn to support the idea why we use songs in language learning.
Firstly, “the song stuck in my head” Phenomenon (the echoing in our minds of the last song we heard
after leaving a restaurant, shopping malls, etc) can be both enjoyable and sometimes unnerving. This
phenomenon also seems to reinforce the idea that songs work on our short-and-long term memory.
Secondly, songs in general also use simple conversational language, with a lot of repetition, which is
just what many learners look for sample text. The fact that they are effective makes them many times
more motivating than other text. Although usually simple, some songs can be quite complex
syntactically, lexically and poetically, and can be analyzed in the same way as any other literary
sample.
Furthermore, song can be appropriated by listener for their own purpose. Most pop songs and
probably many other types don’t have precise people, place or time reference.
In addition, songs are relaxing. They provide variety and fun, and encourage harmony within oneself
and within one group. Little wonder they are important tools in sustaining culture, religion, patriotism
and yeas, even revolution.
Last but not least, there are many learning activities we can do with songs such as studying grammar,
practicing selective listening comprehension, translating songs, learning vocabulary, spelling, and
culture.
From the elaboration above, it can be concluded that learning through music and songs, learning
English can be enjoyable and fun

Smoking in Restaurant

Smoking in restaurants is just not on. It must not be allowed because it is rude, harmful to others and
dangerous for the smokers.
Firstly, smoking in a restaurant is impolite. The smell of the smoke affects all people and can turn
them off their food. People pay to taste good food and not to be put off by foul smelling smoke.
Another reason smoking should not be allowed in restaurant is the harm it can do to others. Passive
smoking that is breathing in smoke made by a smoker can lead to asthma attacks and even cancer.
Finally, smoking is dangerous and a health risk to the smokers. Cigarettes cause heart and lung
disease and people should not smoke anywhere, not just in restaurants.
Therefore, smoking in restaurants is impolite, harmful to others and a health risk to the smokers and
should not be allowed in any restaurants.

Dust Bin
To improve comfort and cleanliness at our school, a number of dust bins should be increased.
When we look at classrooms, school corridors and school yard, there are paper mineral water cups,
straws, and napkins here and there. The condition of uncleanliness and discomfort really hinders
learning and teaching environment. Litters thrown carelessly cause disease, especially empty plastic
cup or glasses. They can be filled out with water coming from the rain. This can be placed for dengue
mosquitoes to spread out. Besides, these rubbish can deteriorate the scene. Well painted wall and
green school yard do not mean anything litters are scattered everywhere.

Anyway I notice that most of the students in our school have responsibilities for the school
environment. They put their litters on the proper places. But some are not diligent enough to find the
dust bins. The numbers of dust binds in our schools are not enough. More dust bins should be put
beside each of steps, outside of the classrooms, and some more also the corridors. Probably one
dust bin should be in every ten meters. So when students want to throw away their litters, they can
find the dust bins easily.

When school is equipped with sufficient dust bins, we do not have problems of freak and discomfort
any more. Our school will be very clean and become a nice place to study.

and he was very hungry. He decided to ask for some food at the next house he visited. However he
was so nervous when a lovely young woman opened the door. He only asked for a glass of water.
The woman thought that the boy was hungry so she gave him a large glass of milk. He drank it slowly,
and then asked. “How much do owe you?”. “You don’t owe me anything,” she replied, “Mother has
taught us never to accept pay for a kindness.” He said, “Thank you from my heart.” As the poor boy
left that house, he felt stronger. His faith in God was getting stronger too. He had been ready to stop
his study but now he got a spirit to continue it until he became a doctor.

language. Indonesian, Thai, and Japanese learn English as a foreign language, because the people

Indonesia, people speak Indonesian at home, in the shops and at schools whereas in small towns or
in villages people speak Indonesian and vernaculars (Javanese, Balinese, Batak, etc.)
interchangeably. They speak English only at schools in their English classrooms.
The Philippines has adopted English as a second language.' English is an official language in the
Philippines for a different reason. The Philippines had been under successive foreign colonization,
first Spanish and then American, for a long time. Even nowadays Spanish is still being taught in many
high schools in Manila. In the Philippines people speak Tagalog mostly at home and English mostly
outside, in the same way as the Indonesians living in Central

BAB I

PENDAHULUAN
A. Latar Belakang

BAB II
PEMBAHASAN
A. Sejarah dan Pengertian EDMODO
Networking Site For School, menyatakan bahwa Edmodoadalah sebuah situs pendidikan berbasis
Edmodo
mengklasifikasikan fiturnya berdasarkan pengguna yaitu guru dan siswa. Dibawah ini adalah fitur
yang ada pada Edmodo.
a. Assignment
b. File and Links
.pdf, .ppt, .xls, dll.
c. Quiz
tetap diakses melalui Edmodo.
g. Award Badges
C. Implikasi EDMODO Untuk Pembelajaran Pada Pendidikan Jarak Jauh
a) Mirip facebook, mudah digunakan.
Unit 2
Most pop songs and probably
many other types don’t have precise people, place or time reference.

Probably one dust
bin should be in every ten meters. So when students want to throw away their litters, they can find the
dust bins easily.

When school is equipped with sufficient dust bins, we do not have problems of freak and discomfort
any more. Our school will be very clean and become a nice place to study.
