INTRODUCTION

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Android is a mobile operating system (OS) based on the Linux kernel [1] and

currently developed by Google. With a user interface based on direct manipulation,

Android is designed primarily for touchscreen mobile devices such as smartphones and

tablet computers. Android's source code is released by Google under open source

licenses, although most Android devices ultimately ship with a combination of open

source and proprietary software, including proprietary software developed and licensed

by Google. Android is popular with technology companies which require a ready-made,

low-cost and customizable operating system for high-tech devices. Android's open nature

has encouraged a large community of developers and enthusiasts to use the open-source

code as a foundation for community-driven projects, which add new features for

advanced users or bring Android to devices which were officially released running other

operating systems

For years, communicating vital information and announcements to the student has

been a major problem faced by most students and faculties in ESSU. it can be found that

the student has to regularly interact with the office personally. Many approaches have

been used previously but still messages were not delivered effectively and efficiently to

students due to various reasons. As a result, students are unaware of essential messages

especially last-minute updates causing inconveniences and perhaps causing students to

miss out golden opportunities for their career or study life. Certain tasks such as viewing

personal details also cause a hassle for students as they need to travel back and forth to

their own faculty to complete them. With the existence of an Android application

specially tailored for student use, the stated tasks could most probably be performed in a
timelier manner. Plus, usage of unnecessary forms could be reduced; promoting an

environmental-friendly culture.

proposed system for ESSUdyante is fully an automated one using Wireless Android. The

ESSUdyante is a mobile as well as web application. It uses smart phones of android

platform and web services on computer systems. The main objective is to develop and to

provide students with information regarding Academic officials, any placement activities,

general notices, and important notices regarding Senior High school department.

ESSUdyante provides one attractive environment where user can see data and

information about students and staff easily. So we can say the main purpose of designing

“ESSUdyante” is to receive notices and task related to the SHS department

students/teachers and to reduce time to searching of appropriate information related about

SHS department.
OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

The following are the objectives which are to be achieved from the development

of the ESSUdyante application.

1. To develop & Design an android application system for the students of Eastern

Samar State University, Borongan City.

2. To test the usability of the android based application system.

3. Delivering messages, announcements and last-minute updates to students

effectively and efficiently

DEFINITION OF TERMS

The following terms or word defined conceptual to facilitate full and convenient

understanding of the study. These terms will help the readers to fully understand the data

that is presented.

Usability – The ease of use and learnability of a human-made object such as tool

or device. In software engineering, usability is a degree to which the software can be used

by specified consumers to achieve quantified objectives with effectiveness, efficiency,

and satisfaction in a quantified context of use.

Application– most commonly referred to as an app, is a type of

application/software designed to run on a mobile device such as smartphone or tablet.

Android – is a mobile operating system developed by google. It is used by

several smartphones and tablets

SCOPE AND LIMITATION

This research is mainly focusing on developing an app for Eastern Samar State

University which will be tested by Grade 12 Students in the SY 2018-2019. This study will take

place at Eastern Samar state University (ESSU) Brgy. Maypangdan Borongan City, Eastern Samar.

The participants of this study is STEM, ABM and HUMSS. A researcher-made questionnaire will

be utilized to identify and to gather information to the participants.
