LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 9

I. Objectives
A. Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding on how Anglo-American literature and other text types
serves as a means of enhancing self; also how to use processing, assessing, summarizing information, word
derivation and formation strategies, appropriate word order, punctuation marks and interjections to enable him/her
to participate actively in speech choir.
B. Performance Standard: The learner actively participates in a speech choir through using effective verbal and non-
verbal strategies based on the following criteria: Focus, Voice, Delivery, Facial Expressions, Body Movements/
Gestures and Audience Contact.
C. Learning Competencies
EN9SS-If-1.5.1: Skim to determine key ideas and author’s purpose.
EN9VC-If-19: Summarize the contents of the material viewed.
EN9LT-If-2.2.3: Determine tone, mode, technique, and purpose of the author.
Specific Objectives:
1. Identify the different challenges that students face nowadays.
2. Perform a TWIST analysis of a selection from "Mother to Son". Remember that TWIST stands for Tone, Word
Choice, Imagery, Style, Theme.
3. Show positive ways on how to cope with challenges through group differentiated tasks.

A. Preliminaries:
Checking of attendance, cleanliness and orderliness.
B. Motivation
ACTIVITY 1: The students are expected to assemble a picture puzzle. The results are all about the challenges that students face
nowadays.

C. Presentation
D. Activating Prior Knowledge
ACTIVITY 2: The students are expected to understand more about the word “challenge” by choosing its synonyms in
the given list.
E. Discussion
1. The teacher will present the poem “Mother to Son” by Langston Hughes.
2. The students are asked to pay attention and take note of the important details.
3. The students will perform a TWIST analysis of a selection from "Mother to Son".
4. Processing and discussion.
F. Application
The students are expected to show positive ways on how to cope with challenges through group differentiated tasks.
Group I- Perform a skit on how to avoid bullying in school premises.
Group II- Create a Picture Rebus to fight depression.
Group III- Demonstrate a tableau showing the negative effects of vices.
Group IV- Show some motivational quotes for students who experience having a failing grade.
Group V- Make a poster showing one good way to fight technology addiction.
Group VI- Write a letter to parents addressing your concerns about the negative effects of family problems on your
studies. And what should they do to help perform well in school.
