Brief Industrial Profile of Bareilly District
1. General Characteristics of the District:

Bareilly is a metro city in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Standing on t he
Ramganga river, it is the headquarters of Bareilly Division and is a center for the manufacture of
furniture, zari. Geographically it forms the outer gateway to enter Uttarakhand State. Bareilly is
the 4th city of Uttar Pradesh which has CNG fuel stations, after Lucknow, Kanpur and Agra.
Bareilly is the 7th largest metropolitan city of Uttar Pradesh and 50th largest metropolitan city of
India. This fast-growing city is also known as Bans-Bareilly, due to its big bamboo market.
Bareilly is also known as the counter-magnet city because it is equidistant from New Delhi and
Lucknow and has a lot of potential for setting up industries to attract people to settle. Historically
it was the part of the ancient kingdom of Panchal. In the Medieval period it was under the
Rohillas. The modern city’s foundation was laid by Mukrand Rai in 1657.

1.1 Location & Geographical Area.

The Bareilly district is lying between 78.23’ longitude East and 28.10’ latitude North.
The Bareilly district covers an area of 4120 sq.km. The district is bounded on the North by the
Nanital district of Uttranchal, on t he South by Badaun district, on t he East by Pilibhit &
Sahajahanpur districts and on t he West by Rampur district. The Ramganga River makes the
natural boundries with Badaun district. Situated on the national highway 24, the state capital is
237 km in East. It is well connected by Railways & Roadways. Ramganga is the main river of
the district and Bahgul, Shankh, Devrania, Nakatia, Kailasi is some other rivers flowing in the
district.

1.2 Topography:

The topography of Bareilly district is mainly a plain landmass. Bullai, Domath and
Matiyar are commonly found soils in the district. Due to tarai region the climate of the district is
very pleasant. The district enjoys a moderate and pleasing climate with cool and foggy winter
and generally hot & humid summer. Here summer starts very early and the temperature of the
district is varies from 4º C in winter to 44º C in summer. The wet session normally starts in the
end of June month to September. The average rainfall is 1050 m m. The winter months are
virtually dry.

The total forest covers an area of 352 hectare in the district.

1.5 Administrative set up:


Bareilly city is the Divisional headquarter of Uttar Pradesh. For administrative convenience,
the district of Bareilly has been divided into six tehsils namely,

Due to proximity of Uttranchal and being a big city in nearby area, Bareilly is developed
as educational hub ov er the period of time. Bareilly is also known as the counter-magnet city
because it is equidistant from New Delhi and Lucknow and has a lot of potential for setting up
industries to attract people to settle.

3.7 Vendorisation / Ancillarisation of the Industry

IIFCO at Aonla, Railway workshop and few sugar mills are only few PSU & Large scale
are working in Bareilly, hence scope of vendorisation / ancillarisation is very limited. The more
investment in large sector shall provide more opportunities for vendorisation in MSE sector.

• Better road connectivity.
• Enhancement of investment limit in Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises.
• State Industrial Policy: It must be declared.
• Attractive Industrial Policy of neighboring state.
• Various central/ state departments are operating similar nature of activities/ schemes with
varying subside/ limits, required to be consolidated.
• Better Technology Up gradation Scheme with some mechanism for tracking of
application status may be available on line.
• Implementation of online submission of Entrepreneurship Memorandum.
• Better loan scheme for self employment for educated unemployed youths.
• More benefit to micro level enterprises under CGTMSE scheme.
• Interest subsidy to Micro enterprises to attract more entrepreneurs to start new venture.
• MDA scheme should be more attractive.
• Procedure for National Awards should be simplified.
• Various DC (MSME) schemes must be more entrepreneurs friendly.
