“Any language is necessariliy a finite system applied with different degress of creativity to

an infinite variety of situations, and most of the words and phrases we use are

“prefabricated” in the snse that we don’t coin new ones every time we speak.” David

We cannot deny that the Philippines is rich in the field of culture, since it is one of the

most widely spoken countries in the world. In total, the Philippines has 175 languages,

171 of this was still using by Filipinos while four have disappeared. But over time, the

language used only in communication, seems to be the art of many Filipinos, because of

its diversity that has gradually developed in different parts of the country.

This research aims to find out the history of Idyolek and how it developed in the country

and know the factors that affect the development of a variety of language that eventually

become part of the identity of an individual. Research also discusses how students are

familiar with the term.

According to Saussure, (1916) The existence of variants and language variation is based

on the beliefs of linguists of heterogeneous language diversity and never the similarity or

uniformity of any language. It comes with a diverse group of people with different places

of residence, interest, work, education and so on.

Due to diverse societies, geography, education level, occupation, age and gender, and

ethnic groups, there have been language variants. These include the Idyolek or the

unique language of an individual who loves by people around him/her and later on,

become part of his/her identity.

In the Philippines, many well-known personalities use Idyolek, over time have become

part of their promotion in various industries such as acting, singing, advertising, comedy

and news. There are other personalities who have been frustrated with the leniency of

their respective lines, some of which have been pushed aside for the sake of mass

support.

The research shows that there is no specific date and place when and where the spell

begins, but in view of the history of the Philippines, it is noteworthy, there are lines that

have been fascinated by heroic personalities in our history such as General Douglas

MacArthur in his line "I shall return" that he said when they left the Corregidor Island to

Australia.

Meanwhile, the survey conducted by researcher shows that most of the students in Grade

11 are familiar with the term because they discussed it in their Filipino subject from recent

semesters. It also shows that students are better able to understand the term when it

translated in a simpler definition such as "famous line of a person" which also refers to

the word idyolek..
