Test I.
INSTRUCTION. The following statements are all about history, independent source and source
criticism. Write “TRUE” if the statement is correct, “FALSE” if the statement is incorrect.

INSTRUCTION. The following statements are all about Sources. Write “PS” if the Underlined
word(s) in the statement is a “Primary Source”, “SS” if “Secondary Source”, and “TS” if it is
“Tertiary Source”.
1. ____Clia bought a book “Readings in Philippines History” from Rex Bookstore because
it was recommended by a Friend, Kia. Upon, reading, she encounter the First Voyage around
the World by Antonio Pigafetta and was amaze of the Pre-hispanic Filipino culture.

2. ____Jan was required to visit the Museo de Iloilo and write an analysis about his visit.
Unfortunately, he did not but preferred to watch photos on google in order for him to have

some grasps of what is inside the said Museum and, luckily, he managed to write a paper. Upon
submitting, the teacher noticed that most of his sources were taken from Wikipedia.
3. ____Igor, a devoted advocate of Guimbal’s hablon making, as the first in Panay, and
Amina, an advocate of Arevalo as the first, contrary to what Igor claimed, went to Museo de
Iloilo and saw a lot of artifacts. But what catches their attention was Ancient Hablon-Making
Tool in which Igor and Amina debating where it came from “in Arevalo or in Guimbal?” They
did not reconcile as to origin of the thing.

4. ____Maeryll saw the Katana in Museo de Iloilo which was donated by Late Col. Romero
S. Fernandez. She was amazed of the beauty of Katana and how do they built this thin but
sharp blade capable of slicing objects into halves. She learned that the Katana was part of the
remnant of Japanese Occupation here in the Philippines.

5. ____Caren, Kiarra, Julie Ann, Jessica and Ryan went to Museo De Iloilo, a place where
cultural and historical artifacts, fossils, and remnants of Panay can be found that showcase
Ilonggo’s Identity but there is one thing catches their attention – the Mickey Mouse Money. A
currency used by Filipinos during the Japanese Occupation in the Philippines.

6. ____Rey explored the library of the University of San Agustin. He wanted to study the
history of Iloilo during the 19th Century. In one of the books, he find an old photograph of
woman in front of Molo Church, clipped the pages. At the back of the photograph was a good
handwriting that says: “Molo, Iloilo City, 26 de julio 1818 – fiesta de Santa Ana”.

7. ____It was Rhea’s first day as a first year of college in University of San Agustin. Her
excitement made her come to class unusually early and she found their classroom empty. She
explored the classroom and sat at the teacher’s table. She looked at the table drawer and saw a
book entitled B.G. Underground Tale: The journey of Mark Igor and the First Quarter Storm
Generation. She started reading the book and realized that it was a biography of a student
leader turned political activist during the time of Ferdinand Marcos. The author used interviews
with friends and family of Igor, and other primary documents related to his works and life.

8. ____Jimilyn is a new teacher in University of San Agustin in Iloilo City. Her colleagues
give her the new textbook that she ought to use in class. Before the class started, Jimilyn
studied the Textbook carefully. She noticed that the author used works by other historians in
writing the book. She saw that the bibliography included Francaes Louie’s “The Revolt of the
Sakadas” and “The Negros Years”. She also saw that the author used Joylyn and Jessica’s
“Working Students of San Agustin” and many others

9. ____Andrea visited Mindanao for a few months to see her relatives who lived there for
decades. Her uncle brought her on tours around South Cotabato. Andrea visited the Field
Museum of Natural History where a golden image of woman caught her eye. Andrea looked
closer and read that the image was called “The Golden Tara”. It was originated in Agusan Del
Sur and was bought by the Museum in 1922. It was believed it was created before the arrival of
the Spaniards in the Philippines.

10. ____Juanis loved to travel around the country. He likes bring with him a travel brochure that
informs him of the different sites worth visiting in the area. His travel brochure was usually
produced by the tourism department of the province. It shows picture of destinations visited
by tourists and basic information about place like that origin of the name, the historical
significance of the place, and some other information acquired by the office’s researchers and
writers.

INSTRUCTION. The following statements are all about Independent source. Answer it in at
least in 2 sentences with at least 10 words in each sentence (3 pts each.).

1. It was 7:30 in the morning, Jeremy and Jhon were attending the Flag Ceremony of the City
Gov’t. Suddenly, Albuera City Mayor Halili was lying and bleeding in the ground and it was
personally witnessed by Jeremy and Jhon. At 6pm, Jeremy and Jhon discussed the assassination
and both concluded that Mayor Halili was assassinated using a Sniper and it was drug-related
Killings. Both Jeremy and Jhon can be an Independent Source? Why?

2. In 2016, Davao Death Squad issue was discussed in the house of Senate in aid of legislation.
Here comes Maeryll witnessing in the front of the Senator that there is such thing as Davao
Death Squad which she took the information from her most trusted and reliable friend, Jedyza.
Was Maeryll an Independent Source? Why?

3. Daniel Tirona personally witnessed the Tejeros Conventions where Emilio Aguinaldo was
elected as President but was anulled by the Supremo – Andres Bonifacio because Tirona
questioned the Educational Attainment of the Supremo when he was elected as Director of
Interior. Daniel Tirona has direct interest over the said event. Was Daniel Tirona an independent
source? Why
