Hull Structure Analysis – Longitudinal and Transverse Strength

1.1 LONGITUDINAL STRENGTH

Longitudinal strength is named as global strength. Global strength assessing the
strength of the ship when it is floating in still water or in waves.
A. Proportions

L/B<5, B/D>2.5

1. L (LOA) = 249,97 m
B = 44 m
L/B = 249,97/44
= 5,68 m (not capable/proportions)

2. B = 44 m
D = 14,80 m
B/D = 44/14,80
= 2,97 m (proportions)

B. Calculating Block Coefficient (Cb)

Cb is the block coefficient obtained from the following equation:

1.1 Method 1
Cb = Δ/1.025LBwl d

Where:
Cb = Block Coefficient (Cb)
Δ = Displacement
L = Length Between Perpendicular
B = Breadth
D = Moulded Depth

Calculation:
Cb = Δ/1.025LBwl d
= (3/2 x DWT) / 1.025 × 241× 44 × 21.2
= (3/2 x 114426) /1,025 × 241× 44 × 21.2
=171.639 / 230.424,92
=0,75
1.2 Method 2 (AYRE M

V
Cb = 1,05 - 1,67
g.L

Where:
V = Speed (m/s)
L = Length Between Perpendicular
g = Gravity (9,8 m/s)

Calculate with AYRE method:

6,7
Cb = 1,05 - 1,67
9,8.249,97
6,7
= 1,05 - 1,67
49,5
= 1,05 – 0,3
= 0,75

C. Sagging Moment
Mws = − k1C1L2B(Cb + 0.7 ) × 10-3

Where:
L = length of vessel
B = breadth of vessel
Cb = block coefficient
- k1 = 110 (11.22, 1.026)
k2 = 190 (19.37, 1.772)

300−𝐿 1.5
- C1 = 10,75 - ( ) 90 ≤ L ≤ 300 m ( Used this formula, L = 249,97 )
100
300−249,97 1.5
C1 = 10,75 - ( )
100
300−249,97 1.5
C1 = 10,75 - ( )
100
C1 = 10,39

Calculating for Sagging Moment:

Mws = − k1C1L2B(Cb + 0.7 ) × 10-3

= −110 × 10,39 × (249,97)2 × 44 (0,75 + 0,7) × 10-3
= −1142,9 × 62485,0009× 63,8 × 10-3
= −4556220,06 kN-m

300−𝐿 1.5
- C1 = 10,75 - ( ) 90 ≤ L ≤ 300 m ( Used this formula, L = 249,97 )
100
300−249,97 1.5
C1 = 10,75 - ( )
100
300−249,97 1.5
C1 = 10,75 - ( )
100
C1 = 10,39

Calculation:
Mwh = + k2C1L2BCb× 10-3
= 190 × 10,39 × (249,97)2 × 44 × 0,75 × 10-3
= 4.070.604,12 kN-m

= −44.411,9 kN
