36. Explain all the steps taken from start to finish of an over hand serve. Include which hand the
server is serving with, and which foot will be coming forward while serving. (5 points)

Right handed server will be serving the ball. The players feet will be together and their body will
be facing the net. The players hand left arm is extend out, from the player will toss the ball in the
air. When ball is tossed the player will their shift weight forward by taking step with right foot.
The players arm should be extended behind player’s body. When bringing arm forward, the
player should lead with their elbow and make contact with their hand. You want to hit the ball
with the heel of your palm and the middle of your hand. The players arm should follow through
towards the net.

37. Explain all the steps taken, from start to finish to perform a “set” during game play. Imagine
you are setting the ball to a teammate to spike it. Include the correct form of the setters hands.
( 5 points)

A teammate just passed me the ball in the air. I should get in athletic position to receive the ball.
This means feet are shoulder width apart, with knees bent. My chest should be bent slightly
forward with elbow bent outward. My hands should make a diamond shape. My eyes should be
focused on the ball, so when I do hit the ball my elbows should extend in a upward motion,
making contact with my fingertips. Upon hitting the ball my hands should go in a flare motion. I
can angle the ball in any direction, so I will set the ball up to my teammate to spike it by setting
the ball 2-3 feet from the net.

The first is a bump; this would be used if the opponent were to spike the volleyball at you. A
bump could help you recover the ball, and hit it up to a teammate. Next is a set, this could be
used to set a teammate up in a certain position to spike the ball. Lastly a spike is used to hit the
volleyball down at the opposing team because it is a hard downward hit and it’s hard to defend.
