Selection of Boer goats for residual feed intake
•Residual feed intake (RFI) is the difference between actual
feed intake and that expected based on weight and average
daily gain (ADG) (negative RFI is desirable).
•Selection for residual feed intake should produce goats that
are more efficient in meat production but will not affect ADG
or mature size.
• This is of interest because excessive mature size and
ADG are not always advantageous depending on the
particular production conditions.
