Functions of Directorate of Airport Systems

Directorate of Airport Systems is mainly responsible for planning, procurement, installation, & maintenance of various security, surveillance, passenger facilitation &
cargo automation systems/equipments.
Airport Systems Directorate has the responsibility of creating and modernizing airport security infrastructure by planning, procuring, installing & subsequently maintaining
various security equipments i.e. X-BIS(In-Line, RB, HB, & OOG), DFMD, HHMD, ETDs etc. for the purpose of securing the safety of aircraft operations at the civil airports in
India confirming to the specification laid down by Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) under Ministry of Civil Aviation.
This directorate is responsible for procuring 28 types of Bomb Detection & Disposal Squad (BDDS) equipments that includes Search, Detection, Disposal, Protection
& Transportation equipments i.e. RTVs, NLJDs, Bomb suit, Liquid Explosive Detectors, Telescopic Manipulator, MROV, Cell phone jammers, Â frequency
jammers etc. confirming to the specification laid down by Bureau of Civil Aviation security (BCAS), under Ministry of Civil Aviation.
This directorate is responsible for implementation of latestIP Based security systems and equipments in the field of Airport Surveillance, Passenger Facilitations, Airport
Infrastructure's& communication equipments i.e.SCCTV system, PIDS, Video Conferencing, Flight Information Display System (FIDS), Public Addressing& Voice
alarm System, EPABX, VHF FM Walkie Talkies, Provision of CUSS and Self Service Baggage Drop systemetc.
This directorate is responsible for planning, procurement, installation, & maintenance IP Based Net Transaction Hub & Integrated Cargo Management Systems
(ICMS)
Coordination with Directorate of Security (AAI) for commissioning & handing over various security,communication (VHF FM sets) & BDDS equipments to CISF for operation.
Preparation of Pre Award, Post Award, MIS, Monitorable Target & Milestone sreports for all Budgeted Schemes.
Project Monitoring through Progress Reports obtained from Project-in-charge/Nodal officer at respective stations.
Procurement of Spares for the equipment/systems for in-house Maintenance.
Co-ordination with S.M.U (for X-BIS) at Safdarjung Airport.
Monitoring of System/Equipment Warranty.
Responsible for awarding & monitoring of AMC for equipment/systems by preparation & implementation of Complaint Lodging Mechanism throughout India, for the
systems/ equipments, under AMC/ Warranty.
Monitoring of Daily Un-Serviceability Report received from various Stations/Regions & taking follow up actions accordingly.
Preparation & Implementation of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for various security equipments like XBIS, DFMD, HHMD, and ETDs etc

Activities undertaken by Directorate of Airport Systems

Following activities have been undertaken by Directorate of Airport Systems for modernization of passenger facilities & for the purpose of securing the safety of aircraft
operations:

200 No's of ETD are procured and installed at various Airports in India.

18 No's of each Non Linear Junction Detection [NLJD] & Real Time X-ray Viewing Machine [RTV] have been procured and installed at 18 Hypersensitive& international
airports as per BCAS guidelines.
Telescopic Manipulator &09 Types of various BDDS equipment has been procured and distributed at 18 Hypersensitive& International Airports
Total 1475 (543 + 932) No's of HHMDs are procured and distributed to various Airport/Regional Headquarters as per requirement.
Flight Information Display System (IP Based) have been procured, installed & subsequently commissioned at 15 (10+5) Airports.
VHF FM Sets (Hand Held - 1327 nos., Base stations - 241 nos. & Mobile stations - 267nos.) are procured and distributed at 75 stations including 05 RHQs
52 No's Night Vision Goggles (NVG) are procured and distributed at 52 Airports as per requirement.
Installation of SCCTV systems (IP Based) at 22 Airports. Work is completed & system commissioned at 16 Airports.
Installation of SCCTV systems (IP Based) at 23 Airports. Work is completed & system commissioned at all 23 Airports.
Installation of SCCTV systems (IP Based) at 12 Airports. Work is completed & system commissioned at 12 Airports.
Installation of SCCTV systems (IP Based) at 13 Airports. Work is completed & system commissioned at 08 Airports.
Up gradation of CCTV storagecapacity (IP Based) at 34 Airports. Work is completed & system commissioned at 33 Airports.
Up gradation of CCTV storage capacity (IP Based) at 23 Airports. Work is completed & system commissioned at 22 Airports.
Installed IP EPABX at Goa, Bhubaneswar and Raipur Airports & Digital EPABX at Bhatinda& Jaisalmer Airport.Â
06 nos. of Cargo XBIS are installed and commissioned at Chennai Airport. Repeat Order for 03 nos. of Cargo XBIS for Chennai Airport has been placed.
23 nos. of Suspect Luggage containment vessel (SLCV), 18 nos. of Blast Inhibitor &18 nos. of Liquid Explosive Detectors have been procured and installed at various
Hypersensitive & International Airports. Supply and installation of 18 nos. Electronics Stethoscope is near completion.
Order placed for 514 DFMDs and 87 nos. of ETD for various airports.
Awarded the Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC) for In-Line XBIS at 05 Airports (Kolkata, Chennai, Calicut, Srinagar, & Ahmadabad).
Prepared & circulated Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for XBIS, ETD, DFMDand & HHMDs at all airports in India.
Awarded the Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC) for ETDs at various airports in India.
