I. Background of the Study [In one (1) paragraph with 7-10 sentences, write a short
background about your topic. State some facts about the topic. Write the facts in your
own words, and cite your sources. Establish the problem that needs to be addressed.]
Barren land is one of the problems of the environment right now. Land become barren due to over farming, over
usage of the chemicals for fertilizers, weathering conditions or climate change, and crop rotation. Creeping
deserts, loss of trees and infertile soils happens and poor farmers are pushed off of their land, forcing people to
seek new ways to survive. According to Louise Baker, an external relations and policy coordinator at the United
Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, Migration is on the rise for the three quarters of poor people from
rural areas see their land has becoming less productive. Many move into adjoining areas which they exploit for
food until that land will become exhausted being degraded, emptied and abused. In order to prevent this
environmental problem, a cyanobacteria called Xanthoria elegans can be used as bio monitors that are beneficial
microorganisms such as plant growth promoters and pytopathogen controllers that are required by various
agricultural crops, and used as bio factories of important pharmacological molecules. Microorganisms have been
explored for the synthesis of diverse chemicals, fuel molecules, and industrial polymers, and strains
environmentally important due to their bio decomposing or bio sorption capacity have gained interest in research
laboratories and in industrial activities.
II. Statement of the Problem (State the main goal of your study.)
This study seeks to… test the levels of effectiveness of xanthoria elegans as a remedy to
a barren land.
III. Research Questions (Write specific questions based on your main problem.)
Example of SRQ: How does the amount of sunlight affect the height of a plant?
IV. Hypothesis (Write down the predicted NEGATIVE results that you will possibly gain
from your research questions.)
Based on the preceding statement of the problem, the following hypotheses have been
formulated:
Example: The amount of sunlight does NOT affect the height of a plant.
V. Significance of the Study (Write down the group of people or organizations that can
benefit from your study and explain how they can benefit from your study. Use the
format below.)
Students. This study will help in their search for new knowledge and this will aid them in
gaining a deeper understanding on how xanthoria elegans works as a remedy substance.
Farmers. They can also benefit from this study because it can help them discover new
compounds for experimentation.
Agricultural Research Institute. Because this study will focus on innovation, adding
center of knowledge and intellect to strengthen rural development.
Future Researchers. The results of this study will help researcher in a way that it helps
them formulate new ideas and also use the study as a reference for future works.
