Present continuous: We use present continuous:

1) To talk about activities
that are going on at the
time of speaking
Excuse me, you’re sitting in my
seat (now, at this moment)
My Friends are waiting for me,
I have to go (At this
moment)
2) To talk about activities
that happen regularly but
only for a limited period
of time around the
present (temporary
routines or habits):
I’m eating only fruits and
vegetables at the moment
(While I’m on a diet, not
necessarily at the actual time
of speaking)
She is working on a new book
3) To talk about future events
that we have already fixed
or arranged:
I’m getting married in June
(Arrangements have been
made)
We are going to the theatre
tonight
(We’ve got the tickets)

Present continuous form:

We for the Present Continuous tense using a present form of be + -ing:

e.g. I’m/am sitting on the sofa

Special rules for the spelling of -ing:

1) When te verb ends with a consonant + e (write, smile, come), we drop the final -e (writing, smiling, coming)
2) When the verb ends with one vowel + one consonant (put, run, sit), we double the final consonant (putting,
running sitting)Except after -w and -x (knowing, fixing)

Differences between Present Simple and Present Continuous:

Generally, we use the Present Simple to talk about things which are permanent or long lasting:

I read art magazines (I regularly do it)

I enjoy parties (I generally enjoy all parties)

We use de Present Continuous to talk about things which are temporary or limited in time:

I’m reading art magazines (I’m doing it at this moment)

I’m enjoying the party (This particular party is enjoyable)
