I write to you today as a cancer survivor, a cancer caregiver and 1755 Abbey Rd
as a cancer advocate for Relay for Life. I have been a cancer
survivor since 1993, a Relayer since 2003, and an advocate since East Lansing, MI 48823

Hi everyone!
I would like to welcome you all to the Wexford, Missaukee, and
Osceola county Relay for Life! My name is Nikki and I am one of the
co-chairs for this years event.
Thank you to each and every one of you that has volunteered
and/or supported us throughout the year! We are really excited for
all that is happening this year. We are back to 24 hours! Hoping
that will give everyone a chance to stop on down. This year the
UWE will be there with us and will have wrestling matches. We have
added vendors & crafters to our event, gives you a chance to do

The Grand Rapids Hope Lodge is the first Hope Lodge in Michigan
and the Society’s 25th in the country. The Hope Lodge is located in
downtown Grand Rapids’ Heartside neighborhood, just minutes from
the area’s top medical facilities. Offering lodging and transportation to
and from Grand Rapids cancer treatment centers free of charge, the
Hope Lodge is a home-away-from-home for adult cancer patients and
their caregivers who must travel to Grand Rapids for treatment.
Aside from treatment, lodging and transportation are among
the highest costs associated with a cancer diagnosis. By helping to
defray these costs, the Hope Lodge serves as one of the most tangible
demonstrations of the American Cancer Society’s mission in the
community.
Guests at the Hope Lodge have individual rooms and share common
areas, such as living rooms and kitchens. The interaction with other

The Look Good Feel Better program
The Look Good Feel Better program was founded and developed in 1989
by the Personal Care Products Council (at the time called the Cosmetic,
Toiletry and Fragrance Association, or CTFA), a charitable organization
supported by the cosmetic industry, in cooperation with the American
Cancer Society (ACS) and the Professional Beauty Association (or PBA), a
national organization that represents hairstylists, wig experts, estheticians,
makeup artists, and other professionals in the cosmetic industry.
All cosmetology volunteers who are part of the program attend a 4-hour
certification class to become a Look Good Feel Better volunteer.
Look Good Feel Better is free, non-medical, and salon and product neutral.
Volunteers and program participants do not promote any cosmetic product
line or manufacturer. All cosmetics used in the group program have been
donated.

– sometimes thousands – of luminaria
light the way under the stars and
a moment of silence falls during a
moving ceremony of remembrance.

appear to be just paper sacks filled with
canned goods and candles, but every
bag represents a life that has battled
cancer. The luminaria ceremony is
one of the most emotional moments as

lost to cancer, support those fighting
cancer and rejoice with those who
have fought and won. Please join us
at 10pm for this ceremony. Luminaria
will be available during the relay at the
registration table.

Research
For more than 65 years, the American Cancer Society has been
finding answers that save lives - from changes in lifestyle to new
approaches in therapies to improving cancer patients’ quality of
life. No single nongovernmental, not-for-profit organization in the
US has invested more dollars than the American Cancer society
and Relay For Life, to find the causes and cures of cancer. Much
of our research dollars stay in the State of Michigan and are sent
to Michigan State University, University of Michigan, and University
