No Fault Auto Insurance Legislation has been introduced in the 92nd Congress
legislation Before Congress proposing various changes in the existing system
of auto insurance on a nationwide basis . One concept-
no fault auto insurance-has been advanced in bills
introduced in both ~he House of Representatives and
the Senate . The Senate bill (S945) is spo nsored by
Senators Warren G. Magnuson and Philip A. Hart . The
House bill (HR I0222) is sponsored by Representatives
John E. Moss and Bob Eckhardt . If enacted, this plan
would reduce insurance costs, particularly legal
fees, and bring about improved insurance coverage for
policyholders. according to the AFL- CIO . Plans for no
fault auto insurance have been stimulated by arbitrary
policy cancellations, inordinately high premiums.
unfair eligibility requirements , and insufficient
claims compensation. The AFL- CIO, consumer groups,
and a number of insurance underwriting companies
have endorsed the no fault legislation as a responsive
alternative to the present system .
