Currency

A. Definition of Currency
1. Fabozzi dan Franco
According to Fabozzi and Franco, the notion of exchange rates is the
amount of one currency that can be exchanged per unit of another
currency, or the price of one currency in another.

2. Ekananda
Understanding the exchange rate according to Ekananda is the price of
a country's currency relative to the currency of another country.
Currency values have an important role in spending decisions, because
exchange rates allow us to translate prices from various countries into
the same language.

3. Paul R. Krugman dan Maurice

According to Paul R Krugman and Maurice, the notion of exchange
rates is the price of a currency of a country that is measured or
expressed in another country's currency.

B. Factor that effect the Currency

1. Inflation rate
The higher the inflation rate of a country, it can be ascertained that the
value of the currency held tends to be low over time. So far, countries
with low inflation are Japan, Switzerland, Germany, Canada and
Australia.

2. Interest rate
High interest rates in a country can produce high exchange rates. This
is very closely related to the credibility of the central bank. With high
interest rates, investors will give high demand for the currency. The
role of the central bank is certainly very important here considering
that anyone can easily release or own a certain currency on the basis of
the current interest rate.

3. Public debt
The existence of a domestic budget is generally used for the public
interest. However, if it turns out the budget is a deficit, then there is a
high public debt. With this high debt, the country's currency tends to
decline in the eyes of other countries, especially if it fails to pay the
public debt. Even though this can be improved by printing money, it
cannot be denied if this has a negative impact on interest rates in the
country.

4. Balance of trade
Determining the surplus or not a trade balance can be determined by
how much a country can sell merchandise to other countries. The more
successful ones sold than those purchased will certainly strengthen the
country's currency.

5. Stable political and economic conditions

Many investors are very concerned about this condition before starting
to invest in a country. Stable political and economic conditions can
strengthen the country's currency from time to time. Of course this is
very difficult to achieve by developing countries but tends to have
been achieved by developed countries.

6. Comparison of export and import prices

The higher the ratio of exports and imports of a country, the better the
value of the country's currency. This proves that many other countries
need goods and services from that country and that means those
countries need the country's currency. The role of a country that is able
to do a lot of exports is to become the world trade center that holds the
strongest currency. This is very inversely proportional to the country
that is rich in imports. The more imports, the country has no income to
its own country. This causes the currency to be weak and controlled by
other countries.
