understand these processes in order to navigate the school terrain.

Key Understandings The School, most especially a school offering SHS, is an organization charged with delivering school
outcomes. To deliver the outcomes, it should have core processes in place. And each process involves
people with clear roles and functions based on the school structure and school typology within the
context of the community.

INTRODUCTION Do: Greet the participants and make them feel comfortable.

This is the first year of the SHS implementation and it is possible that
some of you are new, thus there is a need to know and understand the
organization that you are now a very big part of.
At the end of this session, the participants will be able to:
1. identify the different school systems and processes
2. understand the school structure vis-à-vis SHS typology
3. be clarified on issues and concerns with regards to school systems
and processes

Analysis 1. Divide the class into 10 groups. Situations
2. Instruct the group to select a leader and a documenter. written on index
3. Distribute index cards with situations that new SHS Teachers cards
may encounter. manila paper
4. Explain the mechanics of the activity markers
- After the leader reads the situation, the group will discuss scissors

process that must be followed to resolve the issue at hand

Situation 1: You are asked to submit your Performance


Commitment and Review Form. You don’t have any idea what it
is all about.
Situation 2: You are assigned as a school paper adviser aside
from your regular teaching load. You want to ask more about
your task and how it will affect your assignment.
Situation 3: You are assigned as the class adviser. You want to
know your students’ profiles and find out how some of their
personal problems affect their studies.
Situation 4: You would like to find a good exposure
trip/immersion/private company for your SHS students.
Situation 5: Your SHS students have failing subjects. You want
to provide proper academic guidance.
Situation 6: You would like to know your salary , deductions
and benefits.
Situation 7: You are a Science teacher and your laboratory
equipment are inadequate or need repair.

Situation 8: A parent would like to sue you because her son was
running for honors and got a failing grade in your subject.
Situation 9: There is a typhoon but there is no announcement
if classes will be suspended.
Situation 10: You would like to organize a new interest club.
You would like to get support from various stakeholders.

- After 15 minutes, the leader will report to the class their


outputs following the template in 2 minutes.

ANALYSIS Let the participants analyze each of the situations:


1. What processes were identified to be observed?
2. Are there other processes not identified but should be
followed? What are these, if any?
3. Who are personnel and other individuals/groups identified to
be involved in this case?
4. Are there other people who should be included in addressing
the situation? If so, who else? Why?

ABSTRACTION Ask the following questions:


1. What is the importance of knowing the school processes in the
performance of your duties as a teacher? (Suggested Answers: To
avoid confusion, to contribute to school culture and order).
2. Why should the teacher know who to approach in addressing
concerns related to his or her duties as a teacher? (Suggested
Answers: Each one has a role to play, to avoid confusion in roles, etc.)
