Studio Design – I MIXED-USE HIGH RISE TOWER

The race between countries and cities to construct the highest structure is a challenge of pride and
power. Technological advances allow for the construction of super-tall buildings – the higher the structure,
lesser the footprint, and the harder the engineering challenge becomes. In the contemporary urban context, the
available land for building commercial, retail and housing space is at a premium. Increasingly, mixed-use, high
rise developments are perceived as a practical and sustainable way to optimize land use while creating dynamic
new urban communities.
High rise vertical structures has evolved from early twentieth century with the innovative use of steel
popularised by Mies Van de Rohe in the Seagram building, later by other architects in the Sears, Petronas,
Taipei towers and till the Burj of today. They also create the opportunity for people to live close to their place of
work, in self-contained units; these towers evolve to form a vertical neighborhood. Designed to complement the
urban fabric and reflect the aspirations of the local community, they allow people to live, work and enjoy leisure
activities at a single convenient location.
FOCUS
Integration of multiple functions, structure and architecture in a singular vertical tower with a focus on

Sustainable Design
OBJECTIVES
1. To exhibit and establish the configuration between the varied activities of residential & commercial
typology.
2. The design should strongly emphasize on visual perception and realization of a vertical neighborhood –
(iconic tower)
3. To evolve cohesion of the social activities
4. Development should respond to its contemporary context (sustainable & inclusive design)
5. To integrate the structure and the backbone of building services that complement the design solution.
DESIGN PROBLEM STATEMENT

The aim of this project is to design a mixed use high rise building with retail, recreational & residential spaces.
