1. HIRE LOCAL WORKFORCE

It is recommended for Sime Darby to hire local workforce to lessen the shortage of workers in
the plantation industry. This is because local workforce has more proper skills and general
knowledge in the plantation industry. Despite that, they could also increase their proper
knowledge and skills as well with proper and experienced training. This also can improve
productivity and remove the dependency on foreign workers.

2. DEVELOP UNDERSTANDING OF LOCAL MARKETS

The company should develop an understanding of local markets and establish a close
relationship with local marketing teams. Examples of activities that they can do is a community
meet-up, treasure-hunt based campaign and social media competition. Next, they should
research the markets and take the time to get to know the international teams that they can
work and cooperate with. Lastly, they should also leverage their knowledge to make global
plans and campaigns a success.

3. OVER-COMMUNICATE

Communication is key to almost to everything and it is very important at all times. As being
one of the most big and successful company, being in a global marketing role inevitably means
you will be working with colleagues around the globe which in these circumstances it is easy
to feel disconnected and so is their strategies, plans and activities. An open communication
channel is vital in developing trust and also nurturing relationships between others.
