FX5U GXW3 Using Security Key with SD Card

It is possible to automatically download PLC program from an SD card to a PLC without using GX Works3. 
See FX5U GXW3 Using Device Initial Values and SD Card Loader Technical Bulletin for more information. 

Using a Security Key, PLC Program reading and execution can be restricted.    

Also using a security key with a SD card ensures the ease of program transfers, without compromising 
theft or human error of downloading the wrong program to a PLC.

Step 1: Create a New Security Key  
Use Security Key Management… Menu 

   

Select New… and Enter a Name.    

Multiple Security Keys can be stored, created, exported and imported in one GXW3 Project.

Once a Security Key is created it can be Export from GXW3.  This allows the Key to be shared 
with other authorized uses of this PLC Program.   Select Expiration Date of Key and other 
Options as need.  A password will be required for Importing to GXW3 later as needed. 

From the same menu you can Import a Security Key into GXW3. 

Select Import and search for the *.ity file to Import.  Enter the Password and click OK. 

It will now appear in the List.

Step 2: Register key 
Use Security Key Setting… Menu 

Register with (a) GX Work3 Project File, and (b) CPU using Security Key Setting.  

(a) Register with GXW3 Project File     
 
Select Project Tab and then the Project items (Project, Program, Scan, MAIN) you want to 
register.  Select Register Key. 
                                                                       

Once you register to the Project you will get a Setting Completed message.

A user without a Security Key created or Imported into GXW3 will not be able to edit the PLC 
Program. 

You will get this error message.

(b) Register with CPU 
 
By writing the same Security Key to the CPU, execution (RUN) of the programs can be permitted.   
Key registration to CPU is only possible when connected to the PLC and the CPU is in STOP. 
Only one Security Key can be written to a CPU. 

Select CPU Tab, then Select Write Destination of the CPU you want to register.  Select Write Key.

Step 3: Write Project to SD Card Using Security Keys 
There is nothing specific to select when writing a project to a SD Card initially, if the Security Key exists, 
it will be included with the project. 

If project does not have, or has a different security key; when CPU is reset after inserting the SD card, 
the following authentication errors will occur.   This will prevent the wrong PLC Project from being 
loaded into a CPU from the SD card.
