social activities. Besides Christianism, the Spaniards also
introduced different dances such as:
Folk Dances – are traditional dance of a country which evolved
naturally and spontaneously in connection with everyday activities 1. Fandangos
and experiences of the people. 2. Lanceros Rigodon
3. Cariñosa

Folk dance has been part of our culture. Before the Spaniards
came our ancestors from different cities and localities have their own
folk dance that represents their tradition, ways and culture. Famous Organization/ Group who paved the way of the birth of

Brief History of the Philippine Folk Dances
When the Philippines was discovered by Ferdinand
Magellan in 1521, it got inhabited by different racial groups:
Indonesians, Malays and Pygmies. The offspring of the Pygmies
were the Negritos.
Dancing and Singing has been the principal past time of people. But
the early Filipinos considered dancing as a RELIGIOUS activity.
