INTRODUCTION
There are ever increasing demands on Reliability and Availability
of Power Generating sets coupled with the Requirements of Ease of
Maintenance and Flexibility in Operation.
To meet these demands, Governing Systems for Steam Turbines
have evolved from being Purely Mechanical Type to Electro-
hydraulic Type. Further developments have led to Introduction of
High-Pressure Electro-Hydraulic (EHA) Systems, which work on
pressures in the Range of 115-160 bar.
In EHA system, the Control & Trip Signals are provided by
Redundant Digital Electronic Controls with the Fastest Possible
Response & Extremely High Accuracy. Digital Controls also
Permits Easier Adjustment to any mode of Operation & Interfacing
with other Control Systems.
ADVANTAGE
• Excellent Steady State and Transient Response.
• Compact Hydraulic Actuators and Simplified
Piping Layout.
• Maintenance Cost Minimized due to Elimination
of Large Number of Hydraulic Components.
• Excellent Reliability due to use of Proven
Electronic Devices.
• Reduced Cycle Time for Engineering,
Manufacturing and Commissioning.
FEATURES
• Centralized High Pressure Control Oil Supply Unit.
• Centralized Redundant Electronic Processors.
• Electronic Turbine Protection System.
• Individual Electro Hydraulic Actuators for Each Stop Valve
and Control Valve.
• Standardized Servo Valves and Solenoid Valves.
• Combined Stop and Control Valve Body, Flanged To
Turbine.
• Electronic Control Loops for Speed, Frequency, Load, MS
Pressure, Valve Limiter and Valve Position Control.

The Hydraulic Power Supply Unit supplies the Control Fluid (FRF) to the
Electro-Hydraulic Stop & Control Valve Actuators (EHA).
For reasons of Redundancy and to Prolong the Service Life of the unit, Two
Axial Piston Pumps are provided for Fluid supply. In case of an on-line
Pump failure, Operation is Automatically switched over to the Stand By
Pump. The Pumps Function in Pressure-controlled Mode, i.e. they charge
the Accumulator System to 160 bar and then limit the displacement volume
so that the System Pressure of 160 bar is Maintained Constant.
The Accumulator System, which is to supply the Fluid quantity required for
Control Movements of the Power Piston, comprises a group of Bladder-type
Accumulators with Isolating Valves and Safety Valves.

The Supply unit is of compact design. It comprises a Tank made of stainless
Moreover, a drip tray is provided at the bottom, which is at the lowest point.
All Electric Devices are wired to a Terminal Strip in the Terminal Box.

A Sequential Sub Group Control (SGC) logic controls the Startup &
Shutdown of the CF Oil Pumps, Cooler Fan and Circulation Pump for
Cooling Circuit.
EHA SYSTEM
It consists of following Elements:
C. Power Cylinder
D. Electrical Controller.
To open the Stop Valves, the Pilot Valve is Energized with the help
of output Current Signal from the Controller. The Control Fluid/Oil
is fed to the Power Cylinder and pushes the Piston in the Opening
Direction against the Spring Force. De-Energizing the Pilot Valve
Closes the Valve. The Limit Switches monitor the opening &
closing of the Stop Valve Actuator.

In the Event of a Rapid Closure, Solenoid Valves are De-Energized and thus the
pressure over the Discs of the Cartridge Valve is reduced, causing these Valves to
be opened by the Pressure from the Operating Cylinder being applied beneath the
discs, thereby initiating the rapid closure of Valves. The Cartridge Valves operated
by the Solenoid Valves are opened with Minimum Travel Time and the Piston
