I got this issue in the last months, and apparentelly is fixed on
my Thinkpad X240. Whatever I did - and I did ALL these
instructions - worked for like 1 or 2 days and the 100% disk
usage was back. Several times my X240 was stucked, and I
needed to do a hard reset.

What REALLY change this situation of upgrade the Windows 10

to the LASTEST version: the Windows 10 Fall Creators Edition ↑

Disk usage now is almost of the time on 0% to less than 10% -
even when I open Chrome or Word, it goes to near 100% but in
Enter keywords,
2 or 3 seconds, falls back.e.g.
AndWindows 10
I even using the original HD DOWNLOAD NOW
(Toshiba 7200 rpm), it´s not a SSD yet.

I strongly reccomend the upgrade, because that was the only

thing that really fixed the 100% disk usage issue, at least for
me.
But I reconfigured the new version with all these steps again,
just for garantee that I am using a clean and stable OS. These
hints here are absolutelly fantastic for a W10 user.

The link that I used to download the W10 Fall Creators Edition
was:

Hope this can help other people like me that wa already getting
nervous about using the laptop with this issue.

Best,
AM

Admin please add : uninstall any flash player update. To do so,
go to windows update history and find flash player update and
hit uninstall . Worked for me. I reckon, the problem is specific to
device manufacturer. I'm using Windows 10 home edition on
toshiba satellite p850.

I did all of the recomended steps here, and nothing worked.
Even swapped out the SATA cable.
I also did a clean install from recovery wiping everything. But
that was no good either.
Mine went to 100% for no reason that I could find after every 10
minutes and stayed there....
What seem to have solved it was to completely wipe the SDD
by deleting the partitions. including the recovery partition,
reformat the drive and download a new ISO from Microsoft,
burn it on a memory stick and install from that. My system has
been stable for 3 hours now. Will report back tomorrow, or when
it crashes again.

So, is it still stable 4 months later? I think the problem is
that there is a Windows 10 update that causes some
disk controllers to perform poorly. When you install a
clean Windows 10 it looks great for a while, but
eventually the update gets installed and slows it down.
Did that happen to you? And you cannot stop Windows
10 updates.

I may have found the fix for this. I just got a new computer for
work, a desktop Dell with 32 gigs of ram and many processors, ↑

creative cloud apps were not responding, and my disk was at
100% usage for the entire day no matter what I did.

I tried many things, and even swapped to a secondary new
computer and the problem still existed.

So the last thing I did which seemed to work was went under
MSCONFIG and i clicked 'hide microsoft services' and I turned
off all the startup services that were not related to my antivirus
software.

There were many things running, lots of DELL stuff and things I
had no clue about, and since turning them off and restarting my
computer is blistering fast!!!

I have a feeling that since the hardware maker and the software
maker are not the same, there are conflicting things going on.
(Unlike Apple).

Hope this helps for someone, as it took me 6 days to figure this

out.

Some of this helped, but I found that stooping the Windows
Store in the task manager was the one thing that dropoed it
from 100% to 0 immediately! Now I am trying to see how to
disable it from launching that process permanently.

Nothing on this page had helped me but when I went to delete
the contents of the temp folder, there was one folder I was
unable to delete because it was being used by an open
application. It was a folder for Adobe Creative Cloud. I wanted
to delete this folder so I opened task manager and closed
Adobe CC completely and instantly my disk usage dropped to
less than 5%. If you have Adobe CC installed, try closing it
completely and see if that solves the issue.

I just created an account to say this . Disabling the 'Superfetch'
service from the servies list by going to device manager solves
the problem in a second .

As "Andrew" says in a comment below: "FYI - Microsoft
renamed "superfetch" to "sysmain". The command is
now "net.exe stop sysmain" or disable sysmain in
services.msc."

Also, Updating Drivers seems to have fixed my built-in WiFi
Adapter's issues!
Never thought it'd be the drives causing the issue.... always was
sure that it was the hardware.

Windows search was the main problem for me. Now after the
start up might take sometime to release the memory. I did not
find the SuperSearch service in my windows, no idea if it was
renamed or removed. Thanks!!

do not install the driver update junk or it will destroy your system
and likely cause hdd failure and inability to boot. The thing it
wants to update are irrelevant and risky to update.

Ive disabled Windows Search and Superfetch and keep them
disabled, however the one thing that always works is to disable
windows update service. Somehow it keeps being turned back
to manual or automatic and it always happens when i have the
100% disk usage problem which seems to happen every month.
Everytime i disable windows update it works immediately
