Faced with the situation of water scarcity suitable for human consumption suffered
by many areas of the planet, or specific supply problems as a result of natural
disasters, this option is a viable and increasingly developed technology. However,
the downside is the fact that the amount of water obtained depends on the relative
temperature and humidity. To get water from moisture, it is necessary to cool a
stream of air, so that the water in a gaseous state condenses on a surface from
which it can be collected.
Currently there are several companies that market condensing machines capable
of working in a wide range of climatic conditions, but with improved yields.
Therefore, in the face of a problem as specific as that of water in the Amazon, this
work arises from the need to design a machine optimized to the maximum for
known weather conditions.
The evaporator is the component where the coolant evaporates by extracting heat
from the air stream. Following the decrease in air temperature, droplets of water
will form on the evaporator walls. To ensure the best performance at the site
already described, the evaporator of the machine of this work is designed to reach
a minimum temperature of 140C.
The condenser is the component that serves as the heat sink of the cycle. In it, the
coolant condenses, giving heat to the environment or any other focus capable of
cooling it. To meet the thermal requirements of the device, the condenser designed
here will remain at 32 0C. The other components are selected from catalogues, so
that the device is able to generate 1 m 3 of water daily, consuming no more than
10 kW electric, in three-phase and at 60 Hz. In the same way, the most suitable
refrigerant for the cycle is selected, with special attention to its environmental
characteristics. A machine of the features detailed here, capable of securing the
energy supply autonomously, will be able to solve largely the problems of drinking
water supply in remote areas.
