Showcase Reflection 2

I have learned so much in the ITL 606 Learners and Learning II course. Expanding my

knowledge of TPE 1.1: Engaging and Supporting All Students in Learning and TPE 2.3:

Creating and Maintaining Effective Environments for Student Learning helped improve me

greatly this month (California Teaching, 2016). My assignments of Mr. Jones and Ray case

study, Field Experience, and Learning Environments and Classroom Management assisted in my

improved understanding of these TPE’s. On my Showcase self-assessment checklist, I gave

myself a point each in criteria one and two of the Organization and Selection of Evidence

section. I felt that my showcase is easy to follow and read due to being free of grammatical

errors. I have a concrete understanding of how my showcase is clear and flowing with my

artifacts placed strategically. I gave myself full credit because my showcase provides evidence

to support future teachers who wish to learn from my discoveries and works.

Under the criteria sections three through five, I gave myself the full credit of three points

due to my reflection and growth during this course. Continuing to improve in TPE 1.1 and 2.3

has been a focus as I am a lifelong learner (California Teaching, 2016). My assignment, Mr.

Jones and Ray, provided opportunities to understand diversity in students and how to make the

necessary changes to help them improve. This was done by creating a case study on the class

which addressed the different needs within the classroom. Breaking down the needs and

challenges of Ray and the other students in Mr. Jones’s class caused me to reflect on what I

might do with similar students in my classroom. Understanding this in greater detail has inspired

me as an educator. It has positively changed my perspective on how to better help students

which will also impact my students as well.

My Learning Environments and Classroom Management assignment helped me to reflect

on the purpose of my classroom rules and procedures. This was connected in TPE 2.3 as our

classroom norms help to establish a safe working environment so that all students have an equal

opportunity to learn (California Teaching, 2016). Developing stronger knowledge as a teacher

has helped me to improve. These reasons are why I gave myself a point for criteria six through

eight. My teacher interview for my fieldwork assignment helped me realize the importance of

providing not only an education for students but an environment to support their deficiencies. It

is in these areas beyond education, that students still need support in to academically grow. This

enlightenment has helped me continue to grow as I am a lifelong learner which I why I feel I

have merited eight out of eight.
